2024-2025 Part-time Janitor for Elementary School (Temporary six-week position)

Summary/Objective
The Janitor position performs a variety of routine semi-skilled maintenance of school facilities, both indoor and outdoor. Must ensure the facility is available for use and consistently maintains a safe and clean environment. Areas of responsibility and technical capacity include but are not limited to carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Must be results driven, take initiative, possess strong moral and ethical conduct, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions

1. Performs general, routine, and preventative maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas according to all applicable state/city codes and regulations.
2. Performs regular inspections of equipment, systems, and building/grounds to ensure they are maintained and reports any abnormalities and hazards in a timely manner.
3. Completes necessary repairs as assigned by Principal.
4. Is on call for maintenance requirements 24/7 and responds and provides emergency/unscheduled repairs in accordance with all state/city codes and regulations.
5. Use the Work Order System, ensuring work orders have been requested prior to the tasks, the only exception is in the event of an emergency.
6. Prepares classrooms and other areas for students and/or events including but not limited to, removing and/or rearranging furniture.
7. Oversees the service that provides for academic year end of trash removal and classroom cleaning.
8. Properly disposes of all recyclable materials.
9. Helps maintain the exterior property, including cutting grass and snow removal.
10. Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health and environmental regulations and laws are observed.
11. Must follow safe working practices and appropriate use of related safety equipment.
12. Must be computer literate and know how to use various control monitoring software.
13. Works with outside vendors to complete tasks when assigned.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Will also be exposed to and working around items to include but limited to, lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing (including ladders) all day. The employee must frequently lift/push and/or move items over 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
Eligibility Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license and high school diploma/GED.
- 5-10 years work experience in facilities maintenance is desired.
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and ability to clean using heavy equipment and moving furniture.
- Work experience in an academic institution is highly desirable.
- Ability to work flexible hours with minimal supervision.
Position Type/Work Hours This is a temporary (approximately six weeks for leave coverage), part-time, unbenefited position. This position is at night from 6:00pm - 11:00pm each Monday - Friday on regular school days when classes are in session. This position reports directly to the Principal.
