Description: HEAD CUSTODIAN
REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Director of Building of Grounds
JOB GOAL: Keeps building and premises in a clean and attractive condition at all times as assigned by the Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds, the Director of Buildings and Grounds, or the school administrator(s).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, roof and play areas, neat and clean at all times. 2. Shovels and / or dresses walks and steps as appropriate or assigned.
3. Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are set as required by the security policy and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
4. Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
5. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a years, and more frequently if necessary.
6. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. Removes graffiti as needed from building and all school property.
7. Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, snow removal and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
8. Cleans corridors daily and more often as required.
9. Cleans restrooms daily in areas assigned, by cleaning and disinfecting all floors, sanitary fixtures, stalls, and walls daily. Also cleans and disinfects all water coolers. Ensures remaining restrooms are cleaned by night custodians.
10. Ensures all floors are maintained in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
11. Picks up trash in areas assigned in the afternoon. In offices, cleans all areas including floors.
12. Makes basic building repairs, such as fastening wall anchors, changing bulbs, etc. Reports major repairs promptly to principal and to maintenance department through work order system.
13. Carries out the preventative maintenance schedule.
14. Monitors the building’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to ensure proper and efficient operation, reporting any abnormalities.
15. Regulates the running of boilers, exhaust fans, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper and efficient operation, reporting any abnormalities.
16. Reports immediately to the principal and damage to school property.
17. Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal.
18. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for security reasons, are turned off.
19. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand. Requisitions needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties.
20. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal.
21. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
22. Keeps up with current energy savings programs and complies with all District directives.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
