    TITLE:                              COMMUNITY RELATIONS COORDINATOR 

     

    DESCRIPTION:              
    Full time, 12 months, Salary range $80,000-$100,000

    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Significant experience in public school community relations, public relations, and/or journalism preferred.

     
    • Four-year degree in related field

    • Excellent writing and editing skills.

    • Outstanding people skills.

    • Ability to complete both long-term and short-term projects under a deadline.

    • Strong technology skills. 

    • Experience in the educational field preferred                     

     

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    • Spearheads and supports strategic, proactive communications efforts with all stakeholder groups to support implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan

    • Develops and cultivates the District 58 brand with internal and external stakeholders

    • Utilizes a variety of strategies and tool to maximize awareness and support of the District’s mission, core beliefs, goals, objectives and programs, and develops and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders

    • Assists district departments and schools with communications and publicity efforts

    • Works with school principals to communicate building-level programs to parents and community (eg. school newsletters, press releases)

    • Oversees, manages and provides support for district website, www.dg58.org, and for the district’s social media presence on X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook and YouTube

    • Serves as liaison between the District and news media, and supervises the production and distribution of press releases

    • Proactively provides information and responds to requests for information from the media and other stakeholder groups

    • Develops, nurtures and sustains open lines of communication with stakeholders and other local government bodies/agencies, and responds to requests for information

    • Develops, updates and produces all District publications, including community and staff e-newsletters, monthly Board briefs, annual report to the community, parent handbook, brochures, safety information, pamphlets and reports, for use with various publics.

    • Produces stories on a variety of topics, including budget, facilities work, curriculum initiatives, program updates, and student/staff accomplishments, for website and various publications

    • Coordinates regular news column on current news and/or spotlight information, and coordinates with the media the calendar of events and regular feature news articles including but not limited to 58 Connects and Communicate 58

    • Maintains the District calendar of school and District events

    • Maintains open lines of communications with all community organizations and provides prompt responses to requests for public information about the District

    • Creates situation-specific communications plans and talking points, as needed

    • Attends Board of Education meetings and produces summary report of Board meetings

    • Attends and co-facilitates the Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council

    • Coordinates a volunteer program with community organizations and District staff

    • Develops and implements a communications program designed to effectively reach all District 58 stakeholders

    • Oversees, manages and provides support for district website, www.dg58.org

    • Oversees, manages and provides support for district’s parent notification system

    • Shoots and edits photos and/or video of district and school events and activities, and shares through local media and appropriate district communications channels

    • Oversees translation of key documents and materials for Spanish-speaking families

    • Serves as staff liaison for district’s Education Foundation, and leads planning and publicity for key events and major fundraisers

    • Develops and promotes the District, individual schools, and staff in the area of award and recognition programs at the District, county, state and national levels

    • Updates and implements various components of comprehensive plan

    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
