    OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

    Job Summary:

    I. Assessment

     

    A.     Screenings

     

        1.     The OT will consult/collaborate/inservice district child study teams/MTSS.

     

       2.     The OT will consult/collaborate/inservice staff on screening methods, guidelines, and procedures.

     

                       

     

    B.     Evaluation

     

    1.     The OT will assist with classification and placement decisions by performing functional motor abilities assessments to address concerns noted in the domain sheet and expressed by the team.

     

    2.     The OT’s evaluation of functional motor skills may include how strength, range of motion, ability to perform coordinated movements, posture, sensory system, etc, effect abilities to participate in an educational setting.

     

               
    II.     Team process with student program development.

     

    A.     The OT, with team, will identify long term goals and objectives.

     

    B.     The OT will develop therapeutic interventions. Strategies and equipment adaptations in collaboration with the educational team to address EIP goals.

     

    C.    The OT will assume responsibility for development and monitoring therapeutic interventions provided by self or other team members.

     

    D.    The OT will update and assist with writing IEP goals and objectives as an educational team member.

     

    III.    Program Implementation

    OT will provide occupational therapy services as determined on the IEP, 504, or individual problem-solving plan. The amount of minutes provided could include direct and indirect. Indirect services include monitoring of students’ abilities to perform necessary functional skills, classroom staff’s ability to provide recommended strategies and interventions, and overall education and consultation to all staff as needed, regarding the student’s needs.  Direct services include working with a student individually, as part of a group or within the classroom.

     

     IV.       Professional Responsibilities

     

        A.     The OT will maintain current and accepted competencies of practice in skills as required by program needs by attending professional workshops, courses, conferences, and inservices.

     

        B.     The OT will maintain ethical standards as required by the national and state professional organizations, and the school district.

     

        C.    The OT will project a positive professional image to the community, e.g. participate in district activities, serve on district committees.

     

        D.    Records

     

    1.     The OT will maintain an inventory of materials and equipment that she/he has checked out and return materials at designated times.

     

    2.     The OT will maintain schedule and inform direct supervisor and coordinator (if applicable) of changes.

     

    3.     The OT will keep travel records.

     

    4.     The OT will maintain student files of progress notes, attendance, anecdotal records, testing protocols etc.

     

    5.     The OT will write assessments and programs (e.g. home, database, gross motor, etc.)

     

    6.     The OT will write intervention plans on all students, placing them in designated areas determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Services.

     

    7.     The OT will complete necessary Administrative paperwork (Medicaid, Administrative Outreach, conference requests) within noted timelines and maintain proper enrollment to do so.

    Qualifications: 

    A current and valid license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education.
