TITLE: School Counselor/Academic Success Coach
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
• Master’s Degree in Education
• A valid Louisiana certificate in school counseling

REPORTS TO: Principal
 
SUPERVISES: None
 
JOB GOAL: To ensure the development of a program which provides students with maximum opportunities for growth and development.  (Components will be used for School Counselor evaluation in conjunction with measures of student and school growth. Measures of student growth will be aligned with the DeSoto Parish Public School System’s accountability measures as outlined in the Louisiana Accountability System.)
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Collaborates with school administration in planning, designing and implementing the school counseling program.
• Provides counseling for students.
• Assists students in exploring career awareness and development.
• Maintains and interprets cumulative records on students.
• Assists in placement of students.
• Maintains an up-to-date file on community resources and refers students to appropriate service agencies.
• Actively seeks professional development opportunities in order to implement innovative approaches to counseling programs.
• Student advocate and member of system support teams.
• Plans, organizes and delivers the school counseling program.
• Collects and analyzes data.
• Monitors the students on a regular basis as they progress in school.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the proper authority.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine and one-half or Ten months (Circle one)
EVALUATION: All certified and other professional personnel are evaluated in writing each year.

3. Maintains current records and time lines based on eSER requirements.

4. Enforces disciplinary policy campus-wide and in the classroom.

5. Participates in Back-to-School Night and other school events/duties as assigned.

6. Reports job-related injuries within 48 hours of work accident to the immediate supervisor.

7. Develops and implements an Professional Growth Plan based the School Improvement Plan and on the previous year’s observation and evaluation recommendations.

8. Completes a self-evaluation annually.

9. Performs other duties as assigned by the proper authority.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Services
 
SUPERVISES: None
 
JOB GOAL: To provide support services to visually impaired students so that they may access the general education curriculum as appropriate.
  
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Provide and coordinate unique specialized instruction through daily lessons reflective of the curriculum and students IEP.

2. Coordinate large-type or Braille texts, supplementary materials, educational aids and equipment; monitor student’s maximum participation in all classroom activities.

3. Consult with classroom teachers, regular and special education personnel, parents, and students to coordinate programs and services for the visually impaired student.

4. Provide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills as indicated in the IEP; low vision and visual efficiency skills, concept development and academic skills, daily living skills, communication skills, social/emotional skills and abilities, and sensory motor skills.

5. Collaborative with Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEPs, including goals and supplementary aids and services.

6. Attend IEP meetings and required staff meetings. 

7. Conduct and interpret functional vision/learning media assessments and complete written reports.

8. Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position
