VACANCY:   The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a part-time (4 Hours, 10:00am - 2:00pm) Cafeteria Helper position at Romeoville High School for the 2023/2024 School year.
 
JOB SUMMARY:   The 10-month custodian reports to the Building Maintenance Repair Person, Assistant Principal and Director of Buildings, Operations and Maintenance.  Responsible for the performance of multiple tasks associated with assisting the building maintenance repairman with housekeeping duties.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs general housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the school lunch program such as, but not limited to:
• Setting up and taking down lunch tables
• Collection and disposal of trash
• Cleaning of cafeteria tables and benches
• Mopping the cafeteria floor
• When necessary, other specific duties may be assigned that are in line with this job classification.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to work cooperatively with others, take direction from appropriate supervisors.
• Ability to identify and report problems and building needs to the appropriate supervisors.
• Familiar and willing to perform the quantity and quality of work expected in a safety conscious manner.
• Must serve as a role model for all students and perform their duties to create an environment that is conducive to providing students an enhanced and engaged learning opportunity.
• Must be in good health and present a negative TB test and Physical, prior to employment start date.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:  Work is performed in an environment where unusual temperature and hazards are relatively nonexistent.  The noise level is moderate to loud, must have the ability to walk, sit, bend and stand on feet for the majority of the shift; must also be able to lift and move objects up to 40 lbs. consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.

JOB SUMMARY:     Responsible for developing, implementing and supervising a maintenance program at the building and district level.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs functions which will develop, implement and supervise the maintenance program:
  • Work order directives
  • Preventative maintenance program
  • District support measures
  • Training of maintenance personnel.
• Responsible for the care of costly equipment that needs constant attention to prevent undue wear and tear, depreciation and expensive repairs.
• Responsible in part for the safety of students and teachers in the area where employee is working; also responsible for reporting and removing hazards and dangerous conditions that might result in accidents or fires.
• Responsible for effecting economies in operation by preventing the needless waste or careless use of maintenance supplies, equipment, water, electricity and fuel.
• Responsible for personal safety; along with fellow employees, should learn the proper and safe way to complete tasks without injury to self or others. 
• Responsible for the maintenance on the equipment used in course of completing tasks and assigned duties.
• Responsible for cleaning up any debris created by the particular job being performed; responsible for replacing displaced materials or equipment.
• Responsible for responding to all emergencies after hours both during the week and on weekends.  These emergencies may include, but are not limited to maintenance, security or fire alarm problems, and snow plowing.
• Responsible for all buildings and grounds being properly and adequately cared for.
• When necessary, other specific duties may be assigned that are in line with this job classification.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
• Possess a broad working knowledge of maintenance, repair and construction as pertaining to school facilities in the following areas:

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary is in accordance with the Supportive Staff salary schedule. The work year for this position is 251 days.  The normal work schedule is eight hours shifts, with availability to work flexible hours and/or overtime when necessary.

TASK FORCE MAINTENANCE HELPER (Substitute Positions)
                                                                
DESCRIPTION:  The Valley View Public School District is seeking individuals to fill substitute task force maintenance positions.  Substitutes are on an ‘on-call’ basis, as needed, for building custodial/maintenance work in various schools in Romeoville and Bolingbrook.

JOB SUMMARY:  A task force maintenance helper may be assigned to any school in the district; to the Maintenance Department to be of assistance in whatever project is being undertaken; to the Grounds Department to be of assistance in whatever project is undertaken; or any of the district locations for varied types of assignments.  In addition, a task force maintenance helper is responsible for the safety of himself, as well as, that of his fellow employees and should learn to perform the job properly and safely without causing injury to themselves or others.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The applicant must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and provide their own transportation to various sites throughout the district. In addition, the applicant must have the physical ability to perform a wide variety of assigned duties. A physical exam and negative TB Test will be required prior to employment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Generally, positions are available, when needed, to temporarily replace full-time employees.  Shift hours would be 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Weekly hours would vary.
