QUALIFICATIONS: - Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or has obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree.
--OR-- - Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
a. Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics.
b. Paraprofessionals qualifying under this criterion must have a secondary school diploma or its equivalent, but the receipt of a high school diploma is not sufficient to satisfy the requirements for meeting this standard.
c. Ability to speak a second language preferred.
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.?
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT:
1. Work Year: Ten-month work year.
2. Salary: Salary and fringe benefits to be established by the Board of Education.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF THE POSITION:
Bilingual Aide/ELL Program in Spanish
LOCATION OF THE POSITION:
Bremen High School
REPORTS TO:
ELL Coordinator
GENERAL DUTIES: - To assist in maintaining high quality services for staff, students, parents, and community members who utilize the services assigned to this position.
- To assist immediate supervisor in carrying out the duties assigned to that position.
- To strive for positive and collegial public relations with the staff, students, parents and community members.
- To maintain confidentiality in all areas assigned to this position.
- To assist with communication on paper so that the teacher may devote maximum attention to teaching.
- Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and other materials.
- Provide assistance in a computer laboratory or IMC.
- Provide instructional services, while under the direct supervision of a teacher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Possess the ability to speak clearly and be understood by others.
- Possess the ability to write legibly.
- Possess the ability to demonstrate effective telephone skills and the ability to operate a modern phone system.
- Demonstrate the ability to calmly address individuals in various situations.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet the daily attendance requirements of the designated position.
- Show evidence of a successful work history, supported by references, in a work setting similar to the position for which the candidate is applying.
- Demonstrate the ability to practice confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to assist in establishing a positive climate in the work environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Follows through with behavioral interventions/observations of student(s) behaviors as directed by teacher.
- Performs tasks as assigned by teacher and other staff members.
- Under the supervision of the teacher, works with small groups of or individual students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher.
- Accompanies students around the building as necessary.
- Establishes a supportive relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
- Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student(s) support team.
- Helps maintain and organize materials, files, etc. for the teacher(s).
- Serves as the chief source of information for teacher substitutes assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Alerts the teacher or appropriate administrator to any problems or special information about students(s).
- Maintains confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Aide is directed to immediately report to certified staff any student behaviors, which are violations of the student handbook.
- Assist with clerical tasks necessary for state testing.
- Assist in completing ISBE forms
- Assist is maintaining grant budgets
- Assist with mandated ISBE mailing to the families of students in the program
- Assist in monitoring of exited students
- Assist in the articulation with feeder schools
- Assist in the articulation between ELL students and the guidance, deans, nurse, attendance, athletic and main office
- Assist in the registration process
- Assist in disseminating information to all ELL staff.
- Attend 4 Bilingual Advisory Board meeting per year.
- Attend a minimum of 2 mandated bilingual workshops per year
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The normal workday is seven and one-half (7 ½) hours including a one-half (1/2) hour duty-free unpaid lunch period. Aides will be dismissed early, on shortened student attendance days, one-half hour after student dismissal time.
The normal work week is seven (7) paid hours per day for five (5) days.
The work year is all student attendance days plus one (1) institute day, normally 175 days.
Salary and fringe benefits to be established by the Board of Education.
