  •   Branch ISD operates Branch Area Careers Center, Special Education, Head Start, Early Head Start, Great Start School Readiness, Early On and the Family Success Program.  We provide leadership in cooperation with other local, regional, and state educational service agencies, as well as the private sector, to facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of high quality programs and services.

    Salary Range: $43,660 to $71,326

    Job Summary:
    Provide assistance and support in the area of accounting and financial records.

    Education:
    • Associates degree in business or accounting required, Bachelors preferred. Bachelor's degree is required within five years of employment.
    • MSBO Certification in a business office specialty preferred, required within five years of employment.
    Experience:
    1. Data processing financial accounting system, SMART preferred (minimum 2 years)
    2. Proficient in Microsoft Office software, specifically Word and Excel
    3. 2 to 5 years’ experience in governmental accounting preferred
    4. 2 to 5 years’ experience in public school business operations preferred
    Essential Duties:
    1. Maintain records, monitor cash requirements, and monitor required reporting on all state and federal projects.
    2. Establish and maintain an efficient accounts receivable system.
    3. Prepare and deliver bank deposits, transfers, and withdrawals.
    4. Monitor cash flow and make investments as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.
    5. Perform secretarial duties for the Board, which includes preparation and distribution of materials to the Board in advance of Board meetings, attending all Board meetings, and preparation of meeting minutes.
    6. Perform secretarial duties for the Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.
    7. Maintain scholarship fund and student activity records and bank accounts.
    8. Federal funds requests through NexSys and the Payment Management System as well meal claim reimbursements through MiND.
    9. Oversight of the monthly bank reconciliations
    10. Assist in fiscal year end and audit activities related to areas of responsibility
    11. Assist in and provide support for calendar year end activities including, but not limited to 1099 & W2 processing.
    12. Review and ensure proper recording local tax revenue, preparation of L-4029 and PPT Reimbursement
    13. Review and ensure proper recording of monthly state aid revenues
    14. Preparation, processing and filing of monthly and annual sales tax reports to the State of Michigan
    15. Preparation and filing of annual unclaimed property report to the State of Michigan, including monthly review of outstanding checks
    16. Assist with annual transparency and accountability report
    17. Perform internal audits to ensure compliance with internal controls, including but not limited to petty cash, cash receipts and requests for disbursements.
    18. Cross train in purchasing, acting as a back-up for roles as needed.
    19. Maintain the chart of accounts in accordance with the Michigan Public School Accounting Manual.
    20. Make and/or coordinate all financial accounting entries; prepare financial reports as requested; monitor the accuracy of financial accounting reports; and make recommendations for improvement of the financial accounting system.
    21. Keep well informed of all Branch ISD policies and procedures; as well as local, state, and federal laws that relate to financial accounting and recordkeeping.
    22. Furnish financial accounting information and data to administrators as requested.
    23. Assist with training all other staff in the accounting and financial records department, as needed.
    24. Maintain an organized filing system of all district financial records with an understanding of the Michigan retention schedule
    25. Organize accounting duties in ways that strengthen internal control.
    26. Maintain professional certification in appropriate organization (MSBO) and participate in regular continuing education, seminars and certification courses
    27. Other duties as assigned.
