Behavior Support Specialist  
 
2025-2026 Salary Range TBD, 2024-25 Salary Range:  $46,813 - $68,815 or appropriate placement on salary schedule.  Benefits available.

Job Description:
 
Work with the administration and intervention team to address the whole child.  Develop and implement systems and structures to remediate behavioral and social struggles for students. Serve as a consultant to school personnel and parents.  Work with a team to develop and implement behavior intervention plans to address executive functioning and conflict resolution deficits for general education students.  Work with school administration to address behavioral issues and assign/follow up on appropriate disciplinary action for behavioral infractions when necessary.  
 
• Consistent presence before, during, and after school duties.  

• Consistent presence during lunch blocks.This position will serve as the daily supervisor for each lunch/recess block responding to behavior and safety needs on the spot.  

• Increase the timely response and effectiveness of responding to Tier II and Tier III behaviors.  

• Increase the timely information gathering and investigation response of the Safe Student Process (Bullying and Harassment Response Protocol). 

• Work as a member of the attendance response team in a proactive manner to decrease chronic absenteeism.

• Serve as a resource to the teachers and as a member of the school-wide teams with a focus on social, emotional and behavioral learning.

• Assist in the coordination and implementation of emergency drills and procedures.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator.
 
 
 
Qualifications:
 
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
 
2. Valid Montana Educator's Certificate in Education, Behavioral Modification and/or any exceptional student education area like School Psychologist, or Guidance/Counseling or ability to be certified by the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master's degree from an accredited institution in School Administration, Counseling, Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, Behavior Psychology, Social Work or related field
2. Graduate work beyond the Master's degree
3. Experience in like position

• Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems

Description:
The counselor is responsible for a number of diverse tasks:  providing guidance and support to students and families, serving as a liaison between student families and instructional teams, attending to the social/emotional needs of the students, collaborating closely with the administration and support services, and instructing lessons addressing the counseling standards.

Qualifications:
The selected candidate must have or have the ability to obtain a elementary degree and certification in school counseling (Endorsement 31E CO1 or 31A C06).  The position requires strong skills in interpersonal communication, organization, and collaboration.  Most importantly, the candidate must have a passion for working with young adolescents and a belief that all students have the ability to succeed.

Working Conditions:
The counselor works closely with his/her counseling colleague to attend to the academic, social/emotional and developmental needs of the our population of kindergarten through fifth graders.  He/she collaborates closely with teams of teachers, parents and administrators to support our students.
