    Paraprofessional - Special Education

    Full Time: Benefits available

    Responsibilities:
    * Work under the direction of classroom teachers and/or related service providers to assist in the facilitation of instruction and supervision of special needs students
    * Work with families of children with disabilities
    * Work with low incidence exceptionalities such as orthopedic impairments, autism, mental impairment, etc.
    * Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate integration of exceptional students in the least restrictive setting
    * Assist in the implementation of strategies to facilitate skill development
    * Assist in the implementation of academic, behavioral and social skills necessary for exceptional students to function independently in the general education curriculum
    * Work with students that require the use of specialized structured teaching techniques such as individualized schedules, checklists, and visual supports
    * Implement intervention techniques designed by classroom teachers and/or related service providers
    * Assist in ongoing developmental assessments by monitoring and documenting progress of student


    Job Qualifications:
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); associate degree preferred

    School Description:
      Black River Public School is an independent, non-profit college-preparatory charter school serving grades K-12.  Chartered in 1996 by Grand Valley State University, the school features a multi-age Montessori-based elementary program, an integrated middle school liberal arts curriculum, and a rigorous high school program capped by 18 Advanced Placement courses.  The school has grown from 200 to more than 900 students.  Because of its unique curriculum, Black River is permitted to begin the school year 2 weeks before Labor Day.
