Special Needs School Bus Aide
Job Description
The School Bus Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their transportation to and from school. This role assists the bus driver in maintaining order and discipline among students, provides assistance to students with special needs, and ensures compliance with school policies and safety regulations. Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Graduation equivalent
Physical ability to assist students with boarding, exiting, and during transit.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Excellent work habits and attendance record
Terms of Employment: This position typically involves working hours aligned with school bus routes, including early mornings and afternoons. - 180 days/year - Hourly Wage based on Aide Pay Scale
Reports to: Transportation Director and Building Principal
Physical Ability: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, see and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Job Responsibilities/Duties

Maintain an air of courteousness and confidentiality at all times, following all FERPA guidelines.
Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring their safety at all times.
Monitor student behavior and maintain a calm and orderly environment on the bus.
Help students fasten seat belts or secure wheelchairs as needed.
Provide support to students with disabilities, ensuring their comfort and safety during transit.
Communicate effectively with the bus driver and school staff regarding any issues or concerns that arise during the route.
Enforce school bus rules and policies to promote a safe and respectful atmosphere.
Respond to emergencies or incidents on the bus, following established procedures for student safety and communication.
Attend required training sessions and meetings related to student transportation and safety.
Perform other duties as assigned.
