ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: As Immersion Teacher:

Teach math, science, social studies, Chinese Language Arts in the target language. Use curriculum/textbooks provided by the district and translate the English portion into Chinese.

Create supplemental math/science/social studies /cultural materials, as needed.

Demonstrate proficiency in reading, written and oral communication in the target language in order to organize, plan and implement the content curriculum.

Teach age-appropriate cultural practices, products and perspectives of Chinese cultures integrated throughout the classroom in addition to the language itself.

Provide, direct, and evaluate learning experiences of students in both curricular and extracurricular activities in the target language.

Provide guidance to students promoting their proper educational welfare.

Be responsible for student accounting.

Take part in the in-service education program provided by the school and district, to include, but not limited to Sheltered Instructional Observation Protocol, technology training, and literacy training. These continuing education in-service opportunities will occur during and after school hours. Heavily recommended to participate in STARTALK summer professional development opportunities.

Supervise students on the school ground.

Enforce policies and regulations as established by the school board of the Beaufort County School .
As Part of the Immersion Team:
-
Meet with the District Immersion Team throughout the year and help with setting goals, planning, organizing, coordinating, making decisions, communicating and evaluating all aspects of the Chinese Programs.

Promote positive communications between the immersion team, the administration and the rest of the school staff, the parent-teacher organization and the community in general.

Cooperate with and participate in the planning and the evaluation of the school program (especially Immersion and World Language Programs).
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Must have a valid South Carolina teaching or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
- Must be Highly Qualified in the content area or be able to become Highly Qualified within 60 days from being hired.
EXPERIENCE:
- Fluent in the target language (excellent proficiency in writing, reading, and oral communication).
- Knowledgeable about Chinese cultural practices, products and perspectives relevant to young children AND other ages, including adults.
- Excellent proficiency in Chinese/English translation skills (at both oral and written levels).
