    POSITION INFORMATION

     
    • Baker School District is currently seeking an Administrative candidate for the Assistant Director of Special Education position within the Special Education Department beginning August 1, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
    • This is a 1.0 FTE position.
     

    POSITION INFORMATION

    Under the direction of the Special Education Director, the Assistant Director of Special Education shall assume responsibility for the planning, development, coordination, and management of the district’s special education programs and staff. The Assistant Director of Special Education will provide leadership to ensure that district special education staff is supported and receives necessary professional development.
     
    The Assistant Director of Special Education is also a member of the Baker School District’s Administrative Team and works collaboratively with the District Office Leadership Team to advance the District’s Educational Vision.

    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    • This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold a valid Oregon Administrative License.
    • Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
     
    CONTRACT INFORMATION
    • The Administrative salary scale  is $103,642 - $126,340 based upon the 2024-2025 school year salary schedule depending on years of experience. The 2025-2026 salary schedule will be provided once it is available. 
    • This position will begin August 1, 2025, for the 2025-2026 school year. Contract period is 220 days in length.
    • Baker School District 5J offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package. In addition, the District pays the six percent (6%) employee PERS contribution required by ORS 238.200 and ORS 238A.330.
     
     POSITION EXPECTATIONS
    • Plans, directs and monitors the district’s Special Education services to assure compliance with special education laws and regulations and to work within the frame work of district policy.
    • Directs the implementation of educational programs for students with disabilities ensuring that each student is provided a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.
    • Implements a collaborative, problem-solving approach when addressing school or district concerns.
    • May attend select IEP meetings in the role of administrative designee, as needed, apprising the Special Education Director of situations, as needed.
    • Regularly reports to building administrators on changes in special education law and procedures to keep the district in compliance and to facilitate services to special needs students.
    • Monitors program compliance (e.g. reviewing Federal and State rules, maintaining adequate records of required reports for all state and federal agencies, monitoring legal requirements governing special education; guiding IEP process, district wide, etc.) for ensuring that compliance factors and regulations are observed and implemented accurately.
    • Collaborates with Special Education Director, Building Administrators, and Special Education Teachers in the recruitment, selection, and placement of special education staff including Paraprofessional IIs.
    • Assists the special education staff in developing and implementing instructional techniques including appropriate strategies, interventions, collaboration, accommodations and modifications to curriculum.
    • Provides coordination, consultation and professional development to special education staff, general education staff, and community providers.
    • Completes annual evaluations of district special education employees, including goal setting, observations and final evaluations.
    • Regularly holds special education staff meetings to train and inform the special education staff on the latest in the law, policy, and procedural changes.
    • Collaborates with and develops relationships with outside agencies in all geographic areas   served by the school, in order to implement and coordinate the services in the IEP.  
    • Collaborates with the Special Education Director on complicated situations that may require consultation with legal representation.
    • Keeps abreast of State policy updates/changes and procedures by attending conferences and professional development opportunities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position may supervise the following district on-site employees:
    • Occupational Therapists
    • Speech-Language Pathologists
    • Physical Therapists
    • Certified Therapy Assistants
    • Special Education Office Staff
    • Districtwide Special Education Teachers
    • School Psychologists/Diagnosticians
    • Staff assisting with transition services
    All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. 

    DISTRICT POLICY

     
    It is the district’s policy is to provide veterans and disabled veterans with preference as required by law.
