SPED Complex Support Needs Small Group Autism

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing specialized instruction using research based interventions and district curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Writing and implementing IEP goals and behavior intervention plans to ensure adequate progress of students with mild to moderate disabilities. This person will ensure that timelines are followed, meetings are established and held in a timely and compliant manner. This person will also work closely with general education classroom teachers as well as related service providers to ensure adequate progress on IEP goals is made.

Essential Functions
• Organizes and facilitates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for the purpose of ensuring student participation and improving the student academic success to foster a smooth and successful transition to elementary school.
• Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
• Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student’s achievements, and developing methods of improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Directs assistant teacher and special education paraeducator, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Collaborates effectively with special education teacher, related servers, instructional coach, and other colleagues for the purpose of providing appropriate services to all students as outlined in the IEP.
• Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors preschool students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
• Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating with parents, documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Attends IEP meetings for students as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to the appropriate personnel for resolution. 
• Administers first aid and/or dispenses medications for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction.
• Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

The job of Elementary Librarian is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program at assigned elementary school with specific responsibilities for performing support functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks, documenting losses and monitoring procedures; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and instructing students on the proper use of the library resources.

 Media Specialists hired for a position at the Elementary level must complete the District's approved and provided course of instruction within 3 years from date of employment and upon completion will receive a Certificate of Completion and salary lane advancement in accordance with the District's salary administration practices.

Essential Functions
• Assists teachers, students and administrators for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
• Conducts classes and/or activities in a variety of formats (e.g. reading, story telling, puppet plays, contests, etc.) for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature.
• Creates inviting, attractive, and pleasing environment for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing library objectives.
• Evaluates books and/or periodicals for retention within collection (e.g. repairing damaged books, recommending retirement of books and/or periodicals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books and library materials.
• Maintains materials inventory and collection (e.g. library books, library hardware/software, media equipment and related instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and ensuring the availability of materials when required.
• Manages assigned budget allocation for the purpose of using as a reference in guiding collection development in accordance with established guidelines.
• Monitors student activities within Library Media Center for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
• Operates a variety of media production equipment and systems (e.g. program channel, record programs, etc.) for the purpose of providing media production services.
• Orders supplies and equipment (e.g. book subscriptions, AV materials for various vendors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials to support instructional programs and development of collection.
• Oversees volunteers and/or aides for the purpose of providing orientation, training and ensuring assignments are completed in an efficient manner.

• Provides student enrichment experiences for the purpose of encouraging and promoting a love of reading.
• Repairs books and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books and library materials, longevity of books and materials, and providing cost affectiveness.
• Researches various instructional materials and sources (e.g. guided reading, research sources, etc.) for the purpose of supporting students in their classroom assignments.
• Responds to inquiries of students, staff, parents (e.g. availability of books, finding appropriate reference documents, status of overdue fines, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as required.

The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.  

Specifically for this position you will be a 504 aide, working one on one with a student to provide behavior support and supervision during recess and at other times.

Essential Functions:
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
• Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs of students.
• Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
• Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
• Assists students with self-care activities (e.g. toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming., etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene.
• Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing english lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
• Attends job specific trainings and meetings (e.g. first aid, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
• Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
• Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
