SUMMARY
Responsible for ensuring a safe, nurturing, educational environment for program children and families while maintaining documentation of services provided.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Teacher reports to the Early Learning Manager.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
2. Set up and maintain a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
3. Complete and execute daily lesson plans based on individual children’s needs that include all aspects of the Creative Curriculum.
4. Maintain program documentation on children and families including formal and informal parent contacts.
5. Support, encourage and document parent involvement including father involvement.
6. Document and communicate children’s progress using TS GOLD assessment tool.
7. Administer, score and communicate results of the programs chosen developmental assessment as required by Performance Standards.
8. Utilize results of the developmental screening for individualization with in the classroom.
9. Complete all paperwork, document, communicate and execute the Student Assistance Team (SAT) process and disabilities referral process as requested by the LISD.
10. Utilize and document interventions as given in child behavioral plans, IEPs, or IFSPs.
11. Observe and document children’s activities and interactions through anecdotal notes.
12. Complete, data enter, and communicate playground checklist and concerns
13. Implementation of the program’s Safety & Injury Prevention System including Active Supervision.
14. Work and communicate effectively as part of a team environment.
15. Document any contributions to the classroom.
16. Complete Creative Curriculum Training.
17. Attend meetings and program functions, as assigned.
18. Maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, program volunteers, and outside agencies.
19. Develops and maintains working relationships with peers to promote a positive work culture.
20. Participate in and provide support for the recruitment of eligible children and families to ensure continuous full enrollment.
21. Actively assist the program in reaching non-federal share/match (in kind) goals, in accordance with federal guidelines.
22. Maintain confidentiality.
23. Follows all Program, Board, and Policy Council policies, procedures, state laws and regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, and Michigan Child Care Licensing rules.
24. Provides support to other positions as required.
25. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or designee.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None                                                                                                 
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  
1. Infant-Toddler CDA or an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education for Early Head Start Teachers.
2. Minimum: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associates in a related field with 18 ECE credits and experience; Preferred: Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education or BA with 18 credits in ECE and experience for Head Start Teachers.
3. Experience and training working with infants and toddlers for Early Head Start classrooms
4. Experience and training working with preschoolers for Head Start classrooms
5. Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program policies and procedures.   Ability to write per program policies and procedures.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES 
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
 
Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, spreadsheets and word-processing.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is continuously required to interact with the public, frequently must work irregular or extended hours, is directly responsible for the safety-well-being and work output of others and must meet multiple demands from several people.   The employee drives while performing the duties of this job.
 
The employee is continuously required to interact with, children and families which will call for them to participate in physical activities i.e. jumping, hopping, moving to music, singing, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

8. Fulfill classroom staff responsibilities and hours in the case of staff absences, as assigned.
9. Prepare, serve, clean up, and document meals, as assigned.  This includes delivery of milks, snacks, and/or any nutrition supplies that are needed to classrooms.
10. Ensure and maintain rotation of dry food items, cooler food items, freezer food items, and milk are rotated using the FIFO method as needed.
11. Complete, data enter, and communicate thermometer calibration and concerns, as assigned.
12. Schedule, complete, and data enter classroom sanitization activities
13. Support classroom operations including, daily practices, health and nutrition, and education requirements.
14. Adhere to the program’s Safety & Injury Prevention System including Active Supervision.
15. Attend meetings and program functions, as assigned.
16. Participate in Creative Curriculum training or other program trainings, as assigned.
