The Appleton Area School District has a position available for a 1.0 FTE (100%) Grade 1/Grade 2 Teacher at the new charter school, the Hmong American Immersion School (HAIS) beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.

The unique curricular model of HAIS is a Hmong Cultural Immersion Model or a Hmong culture centered charter school which is a hybrid of the Hmong Dual Language Model and the Hmong Studies Model. The foundation of the Hmong Cultural Immersion Model consisted of Hmong culture and heritage, Hmong history, Hmong language, social and emotional learning, and social justice education. It is an immersion of the Hmong culture into the core and encore subjects to provide students with a curriculum centered around Hmong culture, heritage and history. At HAIS, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies are taught in the English language by the classroom teacher.  Teachers interested in a classroom teacher position at HAIS do not need to be Hmong or know how to speak, read and write in Hmong. On the other hand, Hmong literacy, Hmong History, Hmong Art, Hmong Music, and Hmong Physical Activities are taught in the Hmong language within a specialized course called Hmong Heritage. Teachers interested in teaching Hmong Heritage must be proficient in the Hmong language with the proper certifications. HAIS will provide rigorous instruction centered on the Hmong culture and specializing in the Hmong language to preserve Hmong identity, language, and history. Hmong language, culture, and history are weaved throughout the curriculum and learning day. All teachers are expected to engage in Hmong professional development to integrate Hmong culture and history into their daily instruction.

Vision: HAIS students embrace their cultural identity through rigorous academic experiences with an emphasis on the Hmong history, culture, and language to be active and contributing citizens in advocating for themselves and the diverse community around them.
