POSITION: Paraprofessional Class 2
Description: A Paraprofessional Class 2 provides direct individual student support during the school day and may include before and after school support. The purpose of the position is to directly assist the student and staff with instructional activities, skill acquisition, and other student support as needed.
LOCATION: Portland Public Schools - Elementary and Secondary Buildings (multiple positions open)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Motivation to work with students with disabilities
Interpersonal skills which promote positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community
Ability to to learn disability related information presented by coordinator and to follow the direction(s) of the student’s support team
Ability to communicate with all stakeholders in written and oral form
Ability to take direction and feedback from certified staff to implement student plans
Willingness to be placed throughout Portland Public Schools
Willingness to assist with other staff with students who may require assistance.
Ability to handle complex and stressful issues and situations with sound judgment, common sense and a calm demeanor
Must have fingerprints scanned electronically and submitted to Michigan State Police prior to hire
Associates degree or RBT credential preferred
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self disciplined and a self-starter
Demonstrate competency in behavioral management and maintain control of students assigned to his/her care as outlined in the student’s individual plan
Demonstrate ability to consistently implement a behavior plan developed by the student’s team
Provide supervision and assistance to students as appropriate and necessary at mealtime, recess, in the restroom, and on field trips as approved by the supervisor
Communicate relevant work-related information to other staff
Assume initiative in providing input to certified staff relative to students’ performance and general program ideas
Understand and follow appropriate channels of communication
Maintain a positive image during the work day and at all work-related activities
Ability to collect and maintain student data in a confidential manner
Attend staff meetings and professional development throughout the year
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
School Year Employee: 175 to 186 day calendar
7.5 hours per day for elementary buildings approximately 8:15-4:15
7.0 hours per day for secondary buildings approximately 7:15-2:45
Multiple positions available
Salary and benefits in accordance to Master Agreement
$12.50-17.35 based on experience, additional hourly premium for Associates or Bachelor’s degree, RBT, BCBA
