    Job Summary:
    We are seeking a reliable individual to join our transportation team and custodial team. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting passengers to their destinations in a timely and efficient manner. This position requires excellent driving skills and a strong commitment to safety.  As a Custodian, you will keep the district's buildings in a state of operating excellence to prevent problems or interruptions to the educational program.


    Expected hours:
    Guaranteed 40 hours per week between driving and custodial support at buildings
    Schedule: 
    Monday-Friday 2:00pm-10:30pm

     

    Hourly Rate:
    $18.73 per hour

    Education: 
    High School diploma preferred

     

    Certification: 
    Must meet the Michigan School Bus Driver Certification and Physical Examination requirements including the minimum hours of instruction and satisfactorily passing knowledge examination.
    Valid Michigan driver's license, or has completed the necessary bus driver's courses to secure CDL with "S" and "P" endorsement.
    Must pass drug and alcohol screenings.

     

    Training and Experience: 
    WPS will provide paid training! Must successfully complete a Bus Driver Training Program including classroom instruction, behind the wheel instruction and the written and driving skills tests.

    Director of Operations

     

    Responsibilities for Bus Driving:

     
    • Obey all traffic laws.
    • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses, instructing passengers/riders regarding the safety regulations with safety of passengers/riders as first priority.
    • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
    • Report undisciplined students to the proper authority following District's policies.
    • Keep assigned bus clean.
    • Use established routes and designated stops.
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle as required.
    • Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
    • Discharge students only at authorized stops.
    • Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
    • Report all accidents and complete required reports legibly and by required timelines.
    • Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
    • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by policies and regulations.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations
    • This position is covered by the WESSA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
     
    Responsibilities for Custodian:
    • Opens or closes school buildings on a daily basis based on assigned schedule
    • Cleans designated spaces and equipment in the building (general cleaning of halls, restrooms, stairs, classrooms, offices)
    • Clean up of spills, debris, graffiti, etc.
    • Restocks disposable items and provides supervisor with inventory usage and data
    • Checks building spaces regularly for cleanliness and notes any maintenance repairs needed
    • Assist district staff and community members with obtaining and setting up necessary equipment, furniture, etc. for classroom use, meetings, athletic events, and special programs
    • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines
    • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance
    • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor
    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.  The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
     
    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors.  The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.   The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    This position is represented by the Wyoming Education Support Staff Association (WESSA) and is covered by our Collective Bargaining Agreement using the appropriate position step schedule.
     

    NotePursuant to PA 131, the selected candidate must receive clearance from the Michigan State Police Department, prior to the offer of employment. The candidate is responsible for the background check fee.
