LOCATION: Genesis at Parsons, WV
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Part-time
TYPICAL WORK HOURS: Operating hours of host agency, as specified by the school principal.
SALARY: Daily rate based on the fiscal year appropriate and coinciding County Salary Schedule commensurate with educational level and years of experience.
JOB SUMMARY: The aide assists the teacher(s) in a variety of ways to implement the instructional program including working directly with children in small groups or on a one-to-one basis; to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom; to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation, in accordance with each pupil's ability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists in the process of student intake and orientation.
2. Assist in the implementation of the WV Schools of Diversion and Transition approved program of study.
3. Assist in planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
4. Supervise students and foster a classroom climate that is safe and conducive to learning.
5. Provide small group or individualized instruction to reinforce material covered by the teacher.
6. Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures.
7. Maintain regular attendance and comply with State Law and WVSDT policies and regulations.
8. Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen crises associated with working with groups of children.
9. Maintain positive work habits, performing duties efficiently and productively.
10. Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity.
11. Meet professional responsibilities.
12. Comply with host agency’s policies and procedures.
13. Work in a cooperative manner with host agency staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and the integration of treatment and educational goals.
14. Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
15. Develop and maintain all aspects of student records and school data in WVEIS including, but not limited to, instructional master schedule, student schedules, grade report.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by principal/lead teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Holds a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and has completed 18 hours of State Board approved college credits at a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
2. Successful completion of an in-service training determined by the State Board to be the equivalent of three hours of college credits may be counted as part of the required 18 hours.
3. Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, passing score on state competency exam.
4. Must successfully pass criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
Desired:
1. Experience or certification in special education and/or experience working with at-risk students.
2. Background including, but not limited to, demonstrated successful experience with troubled or disruptive youth.

9. The staff member understands that work assignments may change, or be added, as priorities emerge within the WVSDT.
EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP:
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is “at-will” and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation.
The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding.
