    LOCATION:                                     Romney, West Virginia
     
    The Custodial Supervisor performs routine custodial duties and is responsible for supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of WVSDB buildings, offices, classrooms, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior walkways.  The Custodial Supervisor is also responsible for training new employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents and chemicals.         
     
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Will adhere to WVBE Policy 5902 – “Employee Code of Conduct” and the applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance.
    • Communicates in a positive, professional, and courteous manner with all students, staff or visitors.
    • Directly supervises the activities of all full-time and substitute custodians and directly by using both verbal and written instructions.
    • Ensure that custodial services meet the needs of each department and the school campus by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects.
    • Ensure that the quality of custodial services by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary.
      • Conducts daily walkthroughs to monitor cleanliness and upkeep of custodial staff assigned areas. Notes of walkthroughs must be signed off on and any deficiencies addressed immediately with the specific building/department supervisor.
    • Ensure that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items, and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility.
      • Weekly storage area inspections are required, with signed reports of conditions
    • Advise the department level and maintenance supervisors on the condition of buildings and facilities by conducting regular inspections of those areas and reporting the results of the inspections with particular emphasis on needed repairs.
      • Attends Operations Meetings, as requested, to discuss custodial concerns and/or scheduled projects.
    • Ensure that administrative records and reports regarding custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee timecards or monthly time sheets and monitoring employee absences.
    • Follow established procedures and policies in carrying out assigned duties.
    • Provides custodian performance data to the building/department supervisor for evaluation purposes.
    • Maintain records and make reports on these records as requested.
    • Carries and operates communication devices with established notification procedures, as requested.
     
    • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
    • Perform daily custodial duties.
    • Other related duties, as assigned.
     
    WV Code 18A-4-8b:
    Custodian I - means a person employed to keep buildings clean and free of refuse;
     
    Custodian II - means a person employed as a watchman or groundsman;
     
    Custodian III - means a person employed to keep buildings clean and free of refuse, to operate the heating or cooling systems and to make minor repairs;
     
    Custodian IV – means a person employed as a head custodian. In addition to providing services as defined in "Custodian III" duties may include supervising other custodian personnel.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    •     High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5.
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
     
    • Meet the definition of “Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b. demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required.
    • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computer and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions.  Requires the ability to inspect the cleanliness of facilities and areas that may only be accessible by climbing ladders or stairs, bending, reaching on top of partitions, cabinets, bookcases and ledges, moving furniture, supplies, or equipment.  Must be able to move throughout assigned areas, as work is performed indoors and outdoors.  Requires the ability to lift and carry custodial supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.  Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment and machines to include snow shovels. He/she shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace.  Alcohol and controlled substances which affect employee productivity, safety, or judgement will not be tolerated.

    8. The staff member demonstrates excellent communication skills and excellent presentation skills using current technologies.
    9. The staff member understands that work assignments may change or be added as priorities emerge.
     
    SALARY:
    COMPENSATION:
    Based on WVSDB Service Personnel Salary Schedule, D Scale plus supervisory supplement.  Dependent on applicable years of experience and education level.  Twelve months (261-day) annual employment.  Specific assignment is based upon student needs, enrollment, and departmental needs.
