    JOB DESCRIPTION
     
    • TOTAL COMPENSATION: Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. Please log onto this link for details Benefits and Salaries | Pendleton County Schools
    • QUALIFICATIONS:
      • High school diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5.
      • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c.
      • Employees, regular and substitutes, who have never held the classification of aide will be required to pass the state developed aide competency test.
      • Should the successful applicant be an aide without an ECCAT certification, they must be willing to enroll and take courses (online or in a classroom) to obtain the early childhood assistant teacher authorization upon employment in this position.
      • Hold or qualify for temporary authorization, permanent authorization or paraprofessional certificate for Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT).
      • Applicants who have unsatisfactory evaluations in the past year will not be considered eligible for consideration; applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for consideration; and, applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration additional, minimum requirements for applicants not currently employed: applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration; the ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the job description, with or without reasonable accommodations.
      • Any current ECCAT who is permanent as of 07/01/23 and who wishes to serve in Grade 1-3 classrooms as outlined in HB3035, will need to complete additional WVDE or county approved in-person or online training in the science of ready, numeracy, and appropriate measures for exercising authority and control over students within two calendar years of moving to a grade 1-3 classroom (Two Courses).  Upon successful completion of the coursework current ECCATS will receive an endorsement to serve in PK-Grade 3 classrooms.
      • Newly hired ECCATs or those who hold temporary authorization will complete the current WVDE or county approved ECCAT in-person or online coursework in conjunction with additional coursework/training in the science of reading, numeracy, and appropriate  measures for exercising authority and control over students within three calendar years of the hiring date (Four Courses).  Their licensure will reflect a PK-Grade 3 endorsement.
        • PARAPROFESSIONALS:
      • Any current paraprofessional who wishes to serve in Grade 1-3 classrooms as outlined in HB3035, will need to complete additional WVDE or county approved in-person or online training in the science of reading and numeracy within two calendar years of moving to a grade 1-3 classrooms (Two Courses).  Upon completion of the coursework current paraprofessionals will receive a PK-Graded 3 reading and numeracy endorsement.
      • Newly hired paraprofessionals assigned to serve in Grade 1-3 classrooms as outlined in HB3035 shall meet the current licensure requirements and complete WVDE or county approved in-person or online training in the science of reading and numeracy.  Upon completion of the coursework, paraprofessionals shall receive a PK-Grade 3 reading and numeracy endorsement.
    • IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Principal
    • WV CODE 18A-4-8:
      • Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher - Temporary Authorization: a person who does not possess minimum requirements for the permanent authorization requirements, but is enrolled in and pursuing requirements.
      • Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher - Permanent Authorization: means a person who has completed the minimum r4equirements for a state-awarded certificate for early childhood classroom assistant teacher that meet or exceed the requirements for a child development associate.  Equivalency for the West Virginia Department of Education will be determined as the child development associate or the West Virginia Apprenticeship for child development specialists.
      • Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher - Paraprofessional Certificate: means a person who has completed permanent authorization requirements, as well as additional requirements comparable to current paraprofessional certificate.
    • RESPONSIBILITIES: The aide shall be responsibile for:
      • Maintaining positive work habits.
      • Performing duties efficiently and productively.
      • Maintaining and/or upgrading skills.
    • PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:  The following performance standards and indicators further define the job responsibilities of an aide:
      • Work Habits;
        • Observes assigned work hours.
        • Maintains regular attendance
        • Complies with Pendleton County School policies governing employment.
        • Is knowledgeable for rules governing the ECCAT position.
        • Meets daily schedule as prescribed.
        • Adjusts to work assignments and/or schedule changes.
      • Performance:
        • Assume responsibility for supervising students.
        • Demonstrates the ability to plan and prioritize his/her daily activities (effective use of time/effort).
        • Respects the confidentiality of information associated with schools/students.
        • Utilizes basic methods and procedures prescribed for the instructional setting in which he/she works.
        • Is able to exhibit competence in the subject area(s) in which he/she is assigned.
        • Is competent in the area of record keeping as it pertains to student programs.
        • Demonstrates a warm and receptive attitude toward children.
        • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with principal, supervising teacher, students, parents, general staff and general public.
        • Works well with minimum supervision.
        • Effectively performs duties assigned by the supervising teacher/principal.
        • Is knowledgeable in the operation/care of equipment.
        • Is able to plan and carry out lessons to completion in cooperation with teacher input.
        • Exhibits competence in controlling students.
        • Exhibits competence in th areas of English usage and basic grammar.
        • Exhibits the ability to motivate students in the instructional setting.
        • Exhibits the ability to perform routine clerical duties; such as filing, typing or duplicating materials.
        • Demonstrates the ability to follow directions.
        • Performs duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
      • Training and Experience:
        • Participates in courses, seminars, and workshops in the areas of learning theory.
        • Strives to improve instructional performance.
        • Participates in staff development provided by the county.
        • Participates in college courses/training required to advance in the aide classification and/or better preparation for job assignments.
        • Attend in-service meetings and seminars.
        • Reads current articles related to job assignment.
      • Personal Qualities:
        • Possesses physical/emotional health necesary for effective job performance.
        • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward his/her work assigment.
        • Accepts responsibility for the work assigned.
        • Maintains appropriate appearance and personal hyygience.
        • Accepts conctructive criticism.
        • Demonstrate initiative.
        • Accept change.
