Two (2) Mechanic Positions Available
Location: Transportation Department
Time: 6:00am – 2:00pm
Hours Per Day: 8 hours
Salary Range: F (plus supplements/ASE certifications.)
Employment Terms: 260/261 days
MECHANIC
TITLE: Mechanic means a person employed to perform skilled duties independently in the maintenance and repair of automobiles, school buses and other mechanical and mobile equipment to use in a county school system.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License with school bus and passenger endorsement issued by the State of West Virginia and a good driving record. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively. Must possess or be willing to obtain a license to perform automotive inspections as required by the state of West Virginia. Demonstrate proficiency in diagnosis and repair of diesel and gasoline engines. High school education or equivalent required.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and/or Chief Mechanic, Superintendent
JOB GOALS: The job of the Mechanic is to keep the county’s school buses, trucks, vans and other vehicles in a state of operating excellence that they present no problems of interruption to the educational system.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Promotes high standards of safety
- Assists in maintaining a complete inventory of supplies and equipment
- Works with the West Virginia State School Bus Inspector to see that all school buses meet required safety standards.
C. Maintains and/or upgrades skills
- Completes all required continuing education or in-service training
- Becomes knowledgeable in all phases of fleet maintenance
- Reads and reviews periodicals in the diesel and automotive fields
D. Maintains Positive Attitude
- Works cooperatively with others
- Observes confidentiality rights of students, teachers, parents, and co-workers
- Maintains positive attitude toward work
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Hancock County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
