  •   SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
    The Senior Accountant provides comprehensive financial management and oversight for the district, ensuring fiscal integrity and compliance with governmental accounting standards and the District’s financial policies and procedures. This position manages reconciliations, supports financial reporting, and ensures accuracy of accounting systems, while supporting schools with financial guidance and reconciliations. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the district's financial health and transparency. The Senior Accountant reports to the CFO.

    ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
    • Reconcile all investment and bank accounts for the district and its schools, ensuring financial accounting accuracy for all transactions and tie out to GL
    • Ensure all POs and related transactions have been booked in the financial accounting system properly during monthly reconciliation
    • Oversee the District’s p-card application and approval process
    • Maintain the District’s capital asset schedule
    • Coordinate with Grants Coordinator to ensure that all grants receipts and expenditures have been booked accurately in the financial accounting system
    • Provide monthly grants GL report to Grants Coordinator
    • Maintain cash flow spreadsheet and forecast current year financial needs
    • Assist with accounting-related issues in schools and district office
    • Serve as liaison with auditors during annual audit and provide all support as directed by the CFO
    • Assist with annual budgeting by providing forecasting analysis for current and future year expenditure needs
    • Create and maintain accounts in finance systems, as needed
    • Assist with bank transfers and approvals
    • Support charter school follow-throughs
    • Run school finance reports as needed
    • Prepare spreadsheets for school financial analysis
    • File for unclaimed property
    • Provide financial training and guidance to school staff
    • Ensure that all financial functions within the district are in compliance with the Board’s financial policies and internal controls procedures, identifying any deficiencies and implementing corrective actions as determined by the Administration
    • Generate and maintain fundraising/donor database
    • Support contract renewals and RFP process
    • Process and file all vendor 1099s
    • Generate monthly city sales tax report
    • Process all unclaimed property
    • Ensure that all GASB and capital asset reporting is completed prior to closing the financial records for the year in preparation for the audit
    • Track all fundraising and online donations at the direction of the CFO
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
    • 5+ years accounting experience, preferably in education or government
    • Experience with governmental accounting standards
    • Proficiency in financial management software
    • Knowledge of federal and state financial compliance requirements for education

    KNOWLEDGE:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of governmental accounting principles and standards
    • Expertise in fund accounting and financial reporting for education
    • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and systems
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
    • Knowledge of audit preparation and support
    • Understanding of cash flow management and forecasting
    • Ability to interpret and apply financial policies and procedures
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining financial concepts
    • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • Office environment with extended computer use
    • May involve travel to school sites
    • Periodic high-volume workload during audit and budget seasons
    • Regular deadlines for financial reporting and reconciliations

    COMPENSATION:
    • Minimum Compensation (based on 100% FTE): $65k - $80k (education and years of service to be considered)
    • This is a year-round position
