    JOB SUMMARY:         
    Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Services, is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of the building’s hallways during the school day.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Walk the halls of the building to provide an adult presence in the hallways.
    • Conduct video surveillance of students as reported by school officials.
    • Investigate and support level 1 and 2 infractions including truancy-deliver detention passes to students.
    • Encourage students to arrive to class on time.
    • Check passes of students who are walking in the hallways during class time.
    • Communicate with office staff regarding any students who do not have passes and are skipping class.
    • Assist teachers and administration in promoting the importance of getting to class on time.
    • Monitor lavatories as often as possible, where appropriate.
    • Greet visitors when possible, directing them to the Main Office for Visitor sign-in.
    • Increase student awareness of their behavior and the consequences of their actions.
    • Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to students and employees.
    • Protect school assets relative to theft, assault, fire and other safety issues in coordination with the School Resource Officer and administration.
    • Oversees students while in the hall and other areas in the building.
    • Escorts students on pass restriction.
    • Active member of the safety committee.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
                None
     
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Training in intervention methodology
    • Experience supervising groups of children and working with diverse youth.
    • Knowledge and sensitivity to culturally diverse population.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate and motivate students to address behaviors.
    • Ability to work independently with good organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and handle changing priorities.
     
    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelors or Associate Degree preferred.
    • Experience working with age level children.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.  Multilingual (Spanish) preferred.
     
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
     
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.  Be able to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to run, stoop and kneel.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee must occasionally push items of 50 pounds such as pushing children in a wheelchair.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

    Rate of Pay:  $22.08 an hr., 6.5 hrs. per day
