Winthrop Harbor School District 1 is hiring for a School Psychologis.  This position can be full-time or part-time.

Master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university.  Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required with School Psychologist Endorsement. 

The School Psychologist  will work with students at the Elementary and Junior High buildings.  The School Psychologist is responsible for assessing students in order to determine eligibility for special education serices or continuing need for special education services.  This position also ensures that proper procedures, methods and timelines are followed in accordance with federal laws, Illinois statutes, and other guidelines.

Salary based on Experience and Education per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Winthrop Harbor School District #1 is hiring for a Full-Time Elementary School Social Worker / School Counselor

Purpose Statement
The School Social Worker/School Counselor supports students by addressing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that may interfere with learning. They work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to create a positive and inclusive school environment.  They provide Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan services for students with disabilities and complete any designated paperwork necessary for IEP or 504 meetings. 
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Student Support & Counseling:
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.
  • Assist students in developing coping skills, conflict resolution strategies, and social-emotional learning.
• IEP & 504 Plan Involvement:
  • Participate in IEP meetings to support students with disabilities by assessing their social and emotional needs, including but not limited to developing IEP goals, developing accommodations,
  • Assist in the development and implementation of 504 Plans, ensuring appropriate accommodations for students with qualifying conditions.
  • Collaborate with special education teams to provide input on students' behavioral and emotional needs.
  • Support students in meeting their IEP or 504 Plan goals through direct services, advocacy, and resource coordination.
• Crisis Intervention & Behavioral Support:
  • Respond to crises, such as abuse, neglect, homelessness, or mental health emergencies.
  • Implement intervention strategies to manage behavioral concerns affecting student success.
  • Work closely with teachers and administrators to develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when needed.
• Family & Community Engagement:
  • Communicate with families to address concerns and connect them to school and community resources.
  • Conduct home visits when necessary to assess students' home environments and provide support.
  • Educate parents and caregivers on their rights and resources regarding IEPs and 504 Plans.
• Collaboration & Advocacy:
  • Work with teachers and administrators to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Advocate for students' needs, ensuring access to appropriate educational services and accommodations.
  • Provide professional development for staff on trauma-informed care, mental health awareness, and inclusion strategies.
• Documentation & Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with school, district, and legal guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to federal and state laws regarding special education (IDEA, Section 504, and ADA).
 Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Social Work or School Counseling required.
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Social Work Endorsement or School Counselor Endorsement.
• Experience with IEP and 504 Plan processes preferred.
• Strong knowledge of child development, behavioral interventions, and special education laws.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Work Environment
• School-based setting (PK-8 district).
• May require travel for home visits and community outreach.
• Work hours may extend beyond the school day for meetings, crisis response, and student support
