Full-Time Special Education Teacher - Elementary DESCRIPTION: The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for delivering individualized instruction tailored to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and goals of students with disabilities. They will provide specialized instructional programs that support each student’s academic, social, and behavioral development. Collaborating with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators, they will contribute to achieving district and department objectives while upholding the school’s philosophy. Additionally, they will establish and maintain effective communication with parents to support student progress. In alignment with Board of Education policies, Special Education Teachers will oversee student supervision and ensure the development and implementation of instructional programs within their area of certification.
QUALIFICATIONS: - License: Required current valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), with LBS1 Endorsement
- Education: Required Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field.
- Experience: Preferred two (2) years of successful teaching experience working with a diverse population
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop & Implement IEPs: Create individualized education plans tailored to students' needs, abilities, and goals.
- Adapt Curriculum: Modify lesson plans and teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Provide Direct Instruction: Teach core subjects using specialized techniques to help students with learning, emotional, physical, or intellectual disabilities.
- Assess & Monitor Progress: Regularly evaluate students' academic and behavioral progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with Team Members: Work with general education teachers, therapists, administrators, and parents to support student success.
- Behavior Management: Use positive reinforcement and behavioral strategies to maintain a structured and supportive learning environment.
- Advocate for Students: Ensure students receive necessary accommodations, services, and support within the school system.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain records, write reports, and ensure compliance with federal and state education laws (e.g., IDEA).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time teaching position works a 180-day calendar
SALARY RANGE: Salary based on Experience and Education per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
EVALUATION: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement
