  •   Description:
    This position provides administration, instructional leadership, and supervision of operation and management at West Point Elementary School (PreK-5).  Position will create and a maintain a safe and positive learning environment while overseeing staff, curriculum & instruction, student behavior, and school operations.    

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Serves as the instructional leader for the school and supervises the instructional program and school activities to promote high standards, high expectations, and accountability.
    • Exercise leadership which results in measurable student academic progress based on established standards.
    • Leads professional development for teachers to support best practices and instructional innovation.
    • Manages human resources effectively by supporting, evaluating, and retaining quality instructional and support personnel.
    • Conducts classroom walk-throughs and observations to ensure appropriate teaching/learning strategies are being implemented; conducts post-conference discussions to provide consistent and on-going feedback.
    • Develops and implements school discipline procedures including consequences with an emphasis on helping students.
    • Develop personal responsibility for choices and consequences; proactively addresses situations with students, parents, and teachers.
    • Attends building and division level meetings, serving on advisory committees as needed.
    • Communicates and collaborates regularly with parents and members of the school community to support school programs.
    • Oversees the upkeep of school facilities and instructional materials, submitting work orders as appropriate.
    • Maintains accurate accounting records through collaboration with school secretary, to include purchasing items for school use.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of a school.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of prescribed school board policies and procedures.
    • Comprehensive skills in understanding, promoting and instituting modern teaching practices.
    • Skills in employee professional development.
    • Skills in oral and written communications.
    • Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff and associates.
     
    Education and Experience:
    • Master's degree with coursework in educational leadership and supervision. Experience as an elementary school classroom teacher and administrator.  Preferred three years minimum experience as Assistant Principal or Principal.
    • Postgraduate Professional License with Administration and Supervision endorsement (VDOE).

    Working Conditions: 
    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing and sitting and occasionally requires walking,
    climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is
    required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and
    observing general surroundings and activities.
