    Job Description 

     

     

     

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY 

     

    The Principal – Secondary (Grades 7-8 or 9-12) is a full-time, 12-month administrator who provides leadership with supervision, instruction and the general administration of a comprehensive and equitable grades 7-8 or 9-12 program; maximizing academic performance and the physical and social/emotional well-being of all students, in alignment with the District mission and core commitments.   

     

     

     

    IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY 

     

    Curriculum and Instruction 

     
    • Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for achieving academic excellence. 

    • Assumes the primary responsibility, in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the Director of Instruction, of the implementation of professional development. 

    • Assures the implementation of all high-quality research-based instructional programs. 

    • Provides for the regular assessment of all instructional programs and communicates program needs to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. 

    • Assists in the development of 7-8 and/or 9-12 curricula and ensures implementation of all high-quality research-based instructional programs.  

    • Consistently evaluates and monitors data for the purpose of appraising academic performance and synthesizes the performance into instructional goals and actions. 

    • Leads school-based planning processes to ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of all school programs and activities related to the District’s strategic plan. 

    • Facilitates professional development through comprehensive planning and conducts these during faculty meetings, school-based planning team meetings, Cabinet or other applicable venues.   

    • Assumes responsibility for identifying the teaching assignment of all certificated staff. 

    • Coordinates the development of the master schedule that provides all students a comprehensive education. 

    • Facilitates conversations that support successful transitions from grade to grade and post-graduation. 

    • Collaborates with the Director of Student Services and the Supervisor of Student Services to ensure students’ programming is matched to needs. 

    • Works as a team with District and building administrators in areas related to curriculum, instruction, staff development, testing and assessment, scoring, and training. 
       

     

    Working with Students 

     
    • Establishes a school culture where all students feel valued, represented, and encouraged to support their well-being and continuous academic growth. 

    • Develops, implements, and oversees philosophies and procedures to uphold the District’s Code of Conduct.  Advises and supports individual students.  

    • Assures the presence of effective programs and procedures to meet the social-emotional, academic, physical and behavioral needs of students. 

    • Leads problem-solving intervention processes to maximize student success. 
       

     

    Health, Safety and Building Administration 

     
    • Establishes and implements student health and safety procedures. 

    • Establishes a program to monitor and implement best practices to ensure regular student attendance and accurate attendance reporting. 

    • Represents the school system at certain conferences and meetings related to school administration. 
       

     

    Maintaining Effective Communication with the Community 

     
    • Regularly attends public meetings and school sponsored activities. 

    • Interprets the school program to the community.  Provides for the dissemination of appropriate written information to the public including general handbooks, e-news, and newsletters. 

    • Partner with parents/guardians to support them with the educational, personal, social, and emotional growth of their children. 

    • Provides formal opportunities for parent visitations.  Assures that parents, guardians, and other citizens have access, as appropriate, to school records, teachers and administrators. 

    • Maintains effective communication with local and state educational and service organizations.   

    • Serves as administrative liaison to the PTSA. 
       

     

    Evaluation 

     
    • Assumes the primary responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of staff members and programs.  

     

     

     

    PERSONNEL 

     
    • Assumes the primary responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of staff members. 

    • Works in conjunction with other leadership staff to recruit, evaluate and hire an exemplary diverse faculty and staff. 

    • Implements a professional development program that relates to both building and District-wide instructional goals and promotes continuous improvement with staff members. 

    • Confers as necessary with any member of the school staff concerning individual problems and, when appropriate, involves all responsible parties in the resolution of personnel issues. 

    • Plans an orientation program to acquaint staff new to the school with building policies, procedures and programs.  

    • Serves, at Stage 1, as district representative to the grievance procedure. 

    • Coordinates and supervises all substitute personnel. 

     

     

     

    BUDGET 

     
    • Develops an annual budget proposal.  Supervises all budget components and ensures that expenditures are consistent with approved funding. 

     

     

     

    PROFESSIONAL GROWTH 

     
    • Participates in activities, which will lead to continued professional growth, including attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops.   

     

     

     

    OTHER DUTIES  

     
    • Assist in the implementation of District policies, regulations and procedures. 

    • Other duties may be required.  Subject to the approval of the Superintendent.
