    JOB DESCRIPTION

                         

    Title: Counselor

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Reports To: Principal

    Pay Range: See Salary Schedule

    Prepared/Revised Date: 2024-2025

    Work Year: 168 days


    SUMMARY:   

                        

    The counselor supports a positive class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with pupils, motivates pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to be successful in the classroom in accordance with each pupil’s ability. The counselor establishes positive relationships with parents and other staff members.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks performed to achieve the purpose of this job. The frequency of each task is listed as follows: (D) daily, (W) weekly, (M) monthly, (Q) quarterly, or (A) annually. Also listed is the percentage of time each task requires on an annual basis. The total, including the percentage allocated to “other duties as assigned, “equals 100%.

    Plan, organize, and deliver a data-driven, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate school counseling program to all students based on the ASCA National Model.

    Provide:  Individual and small group counseling services that support academic, career, and social/emotional development.  Classroom guidance lessons centered on the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success: K-12 College and Career-Readiness Standards for Every Student.

    Respond to student crisis situations and report or refer to appropriate professionals or agencies.

    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE: 

     
    • Appropriately licensed in School Counseling in the State of Colorado as provided by law.

    • Licensed classroom teachers must be qualified for the area or grade level in which they perform, meeting Colorado Department of Education accreditation standards.
       

     

    TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

     
    • Knowledge of Counseling Theories and Practices – Familiarity with various counseling techniques and methods that support students' academic, career, and social/emotional development.
       

    • Crisis Management – Ability to respond to and manage student crises, including knowing when to report or refer to other professionals or agencies.
       

    • Data-Driven Approach – Competence in using data to design, organize, and deliver a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate counseling program based on the ASCA National Model.
       

    • Technology Proficiency – Understanding and using current job-related technology effectively for counseling and administrative tasks.
       

    • Collaboration and Communication – Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, parents, staff, and community partners regarding student needs, and to communicate effectively in meetings, conferences, and guidance sessions.
       

    • Diversity and Inclusion – Understanding and making accommodations for student diversity, and engaging families in the student's education in an inclusive manner.
       

    • Educational and Career Planning – Providing guidance in educational and career planning, including working with international students and understanding international transcripts.
       

    • Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution – Skills in facilitating problem-solving and conflict resolution with students.
       

    • Special Education and Legal Knowledge – Knowledge of the 504 plan process, MTSS, and working with special populations. This includes being able to manage gifted and talented processes, and working with advanced learning plans.
       

    • Commitment to Professional Growth – A dedication to ongoing professional development and excellence in both personal and professional aspects of the counseling role.
