QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education and Experience High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma. Most work is performed based on prior experience. The employee is expected to resolve problems of medium difficulty with assistance while others may be referred to a supervisor.  The employee receives general supervision and work is occasionally reviewed while in progress.   
REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to and over 50 pounds.
• Must be able to occasionally push or pull up to and over 50 pounds.
• Must be able to occasionally perform the following: sit, kneel, stand, walk, climbing, crawling and work while standing on ladders
• Must be able to repetitively use both hands.
• Must be able to climb ladders.
• Must have or be able to obtain a class B commercial driver license with S, P & N endorsements. 
REPORTS TO:  Shop Foreman
JOB GOAL:  Performs vehicle maintenance:  Refuels buses, checks fluids, changes tires as required, diagnoses minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems.  Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts.  Performs duties in the operation, repair and maintenance of vehicles in the school transportation program. Performs general maintenance as required.  Installs engines, transmissions and parts as needed.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: 
• Drives fuel truck, refuels buses, checks fluids and changes tires as required
• Diagnoses minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems 
• Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures in accordance to state guidelines
• Performs North Carolina Vehicle inspection on buses  
• Repairs and replace electrical components
• Installs engines, transmissions and parts as needed.
• Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
• Basic knowledge of school bus and vehicles operation and maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of the tools and equipment used in automotive repair shops.
• Basic knowledge of the methods of adjusting and repairing the electrical and generating systems of automotive equipment.
• Ability learn and determine appropriate methods to repair improperly operating automotive equipment.
• Ability learn to comprehend and apply North Carolina Inspection Law.
• Skill to physically perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance and vehicle body repair.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical materials.
• Sufficient educations and experience to demonstrate possession of the needed knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Appropriate North Carolina driver’s license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS: Position involves for the safe and efficient operation of the transportation program systems.  Arranges transportation for assigned students to include special needs.  Investigates and reports bus accidents.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the TIMS District Supervisor with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment.  Supervisory experience and Associate Degree desired

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have or be able to obtain a class B CDL with S & P endorsements. 
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motion.
• Must possess the visual acuity and physical dexterity to work with computer equipment and related peripherals.
• Must pass alcohol and drug tests as per DOT, FMCSA and local board regulations as required
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
JOB GOAL: Develops and maintains bus routes using the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS).  Work involves routinely coordinating with school administrators, dispatching of drivers/buses and ensuring that all school district buses are staffed with drivers, following established routes and prepared time schedules.  Conducts transportation studies relating to school consolidation or for improving existing transportation services.  Assist with hiring school bus drivers and verifies time/attendance for payroll.  Assists Transportation Director with any specialized reporting request from state and local boards as assigned
 
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: 
• Investigate vehicular accidents and/or incidents of vandalism.
• Respond to parental concerns in a timely manner.
• Assist with substitute driver and monitor scheduling.
• Communicate with school bus drivers.
• Oversee the global positioning system on all vehicles within the school district.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of each device at all times.
• Oversee the digital camera systems on school buses.
• Obtain and review camera footage as needed.
• Verify/updates daily Infinite Campus import into TIMS.
• Oversee the routing system and ensure all state guidelines are maintained.
• Randomly review GPS logs to ensure buses are following designated routes and procedures.
• Provide bus drivers, schools, and LEA departments with all route information regularly.
• Verify student addresses with accurate locations through applications such as GIS.
• Coordinate with other departments and schools to assign students to transportation for after school, summer school, McKinney-Vento, EC, and other groups as needed.
• Monitor weather and road conditions.
• Coordinate random drug and alcohol testing.
• Prepare reports as required by Transportation Department and NC DPI.
• Attend training as required.
• Attend local meetings with supervisor to provide technical assistance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation.
 
.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
• Knowledge of the practices of school transportation methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of pupil transportation operations.
• Ability to plan work of others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, and the general public.
• Knowledge of digital video camera systems preferred
• Knowledge of global positioning systems preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of school system staff.
• Ability to establish evaluation strategies and implement formative and summative activities.
• Knowledge of PC computers and related equipment.
• Knowledge and proficiency of GIS based mapping peferred.
• Ability to organize and schedule workload and adjust when needed.
• Experience in pupil transportation, routing preferred.
• Ability to solve problems with limited assistance

TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:   
 
1. Valid North Carolina driver's license and CDL with P and S endorsements.
 
REPORTS TO:  TIMS Coordinator/ Principal
JOB GOAL:  To provide safe and efficient transportation of students over a specified route, according to a time schedule, for curriculum and extracurricular activities.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Complies with all traffic ordinances.
2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
3. Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
4. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
5. Keep the assigned bus clean.
6. Keep to the assigned schedule.
7. Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
8. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
10. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
11. Stays current with state rules and regulations pertaining to driving and transporting students.
12. Performs related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director.
 
Terms of Employment: Ten-month work year/At Will/FLSA Non­Exempt
Starting Salary and/or Grade: NHCS Bus Driver Hourly Pay Scale
