Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, assist school principals and staff in maintaining order, resolving conflicts, and ensuring that school rules are followed on school grounds.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Licensed State of Texas Security Officer, or the ability to obtain
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to interact and relate to students from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds
Possess an understanding of school safety, disciplinary rules and regulations
Ability to record information
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written)
Ability to work well with youth and adults
Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor student behavior in all areas of the school and enforce safety rules.
2. Exercise good judgment in assessing student behavior and handling student disciplinary problems so that errors will not occur misjudging the seriousness of a situation resulting in an inappropriate response.
3. Check areas for unauthorized personnel or movement of students.
4. Prevent vandalism and theft of school property as well as disruptions caused by physical or verbal conflict between students when observed
5. Report criminal violations to the district Police Department.
6. Report school policy violations to school administrators.
7. Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations.
8. Assist in evacuating students during emergencies.
9. Submit oral and written reports to the school administration and district Police Department. Document each day’s activity and submit a copy to the district Police.
10. Refrain from inappropriate contact with students. Personal relationships with students on duty as well as off duty relationships with students are expressly prohibited.
11. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
12. Work overtime assignments as assigned as well as work on any shift assigned to by the Department. Although every effort is given to accommodate the employee’s personal needs, there are assignments that occur with short notice.
13. Work on any campus, district facility, or any other location that District events are scheduled.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Constant student, district personnel, visitors and other members of the public contact. Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing. Mobility to direct traffic (pedestrian or vehicle); specific hearing and visual requirements; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
Day, evening or night hours might be assigned in order to meet the security needs of the District.
Security Guards will be required to undergo the entry level physical fitness agility assessment on an annual basis.
