    Job Title:  Part-Time Kitchen Services Assistant              Bargaining Unit: Non-Union
    Hourly Rate:  $17.69 - 19.5 hours

     
    General Statement of DutiesDuties involve performing a variety of routine tasks, including assisting the Kitchen Services Coordinator in shopping, preparing and serving food for groups of people in a courteous manner. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and café area in compliance within State and local regulations and codes. 
     
    Supervision Received:  Works under the immediate supervision of the Kitchen Services Coordinator, or other designated supervisor, who issues specific instructions regarding tasks to be done and who checks periodically to see that tasks are done in accordance with instructions.
     
    Supervision Exercised: May manage kitchen volunteers in absence of Kitchen Services Coordinator.
     
    Essential Job Functions:  Regular & punctual attendance; duties involve working with other staff and volunteers to ensure Senior Center patrons receive meals. Manages reservation phone system and monitors food distribution to ensure meals are delivered to correct recipients. Prepares coffee each day. Accepts money for meals. Provides eating utensils, napkins, or condiments. Assists in the preparation, cooking, and serving of approximately 50 to 60 meals 2 to 3 times per week, and cleans up after all meals. Uses proper safety precautions and sanitary measures when handling food and cleaning the kitchen.  Cleans and sterilizes dishes, utensils, equipment, tables and counters. Store food in designated containers and storage areas at proper temperature to prevent spoilage. Maintains inventory list; monitors expiration dates of food and food supplies. Stays within budget. Notifies Senior Center Director of defective equipment.
     
    Other Job FunctionsAssists in food preparation for special events. Performs other duties and related work as required. Assists in other areas of the Senior Center where needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
     
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Knowledge of food products, and serving for parties of varying sizes up to 200 people. Knowledge of public health and State of Connecticut regulations and codes, relative to commercial kitchens; knowledge of and familiarity with computers. Skill in observation to determine patron needs. Skill in communicating effectively with supervisors, peers, outside vendors and the public. Familiarity with meeting or event preparation; ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to learn food ordering, ability to learn software programs relevant to the position; ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner; ability to work and complete assignments in a timely manner; ability to work independently and within a team environment; ability to work with outside vendors; ability to perform simple math and write basic reports, ability to maintain inventory and track budget balances, ability to adapt to quick changes in assignments.
     
    Experience & Training:  High school diploma or equivalency (GED), with at least two (2) years working in a commercial food setting. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have, or obtain ServSafe certification within six (6) months of employment
