    TITLE:  ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

    QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Idaho Administrator Certificate endorsed for principal
    2. Minimum experience as determined by the Board
    3. Strong background in curriculum, supervision, discipline, team building, and technology
    4. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

    7. Maintain confidentiality of staff and students

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
    Building Principal

    JOB SUMMARY
    Assist the Building Principal in providing leadership and managerial oversight to the instructional program and school operations and in promoting the educational development of each student.  Ensure that the high school academic and co-curricular programs are implemented in order to maximize teacher instruction and student learning experiences.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    School Leadership
    1. Assist in managing the school in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy  
    2. Assist the Building Principal in his or her efforts to initiate, design, and implement programs to meet the specific needs of the school 
    3. Exercise leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction  
    4. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school 
    5. Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services 
    6. Aide the building principal in communicating information to parents and the community  
    7. Act as a liaison between the school and the community (including all ethnic groups), interpreting activities and policies of the school, and encouraging community participation in school life 
    8. Report incidents of discipline resulting in a suspension from school, as well as all incidents of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and weapons possession as directed by the Building Principal   
    9. Work cooperatively with law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe and drug-free school environment 
    10. Work with the Building Principal to plan, schedule, and supervise fire and other emergency drills and an emergency preparedness program as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy 
    11. Serve as building administrator in the absence of the Building Principal 
    12. Greet and interact with parents and visitors in the absence of the Building Principal 
    13. Assist in the supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours and assist with playground supervision when assigned 

    Interaction with School Staff
    1. Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s personnel as directed 
    2. Assist in supervising professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel and teacher trainees as assigned by the Building Principal 
    3. Supervise extracurricular programs and assembly programs   
    4. Assign faculty members to assist at school functions 
    5. Assist in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal government 
    6. Make recommendations to the Building Principal for changes in policies, personnel practices, and other matters that may result in a more effective school administration 
    7. Work collaboratively with the Professional Development Committee to ascertain high school in-service needs, and assist with the planning and organization of appropriate classes to meet those needs 
    8. Assist the process in providing teachers with the appropriate integration of technology in the classroom 

    Curriculum, Instruction, and Contact with Students
    1. Assist the Building Principal in supervising the school’s educational program and teaching process and monitor delivery of the instructional program 
    2. Assist in overseeing the scheduling of students into classes, establishing the schedule of class offerings, and maintaining a balance of student loads in each class 
    3. Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate all curricular and extracurricular activities, as directed 
    4. Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of the students 
    5. Great students in a friendly and dependable manner during their morning arrival whenever possible 
    6. Supervise the dismissal of students at the end of the school day 
    7. Interact appropriately with students during the school day 
    8. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce the district’s discipline policies in accordance with the students' rights to due process, keep records of any disciplinary action, and perform follow-up communication with students’ parents, teachers, and other administrators as needed 
    9. Assist in developing and implementing student handbooks and procedures for proper student conduct 
    10. As directed, participate in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils who are having difficulty in their classes and who have not been classified in need of special education 
    11. Provide guidance to individual students and resolve individual behavioral problems 
    12. Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions 
    13. Assist with regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences   
    14. Make arrangements for special conferences as necessary 
    15. Maintain an active relationship with students and parents based on respect and understanding 
    16. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and work with the Attendance Supervisor for investigative follow-up actions   
    17. Actively pursue all cases of truancy, excessive absences, and tardies
    18. Assist in the preparation of required reports on violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and possession of firearms 

    Financial and Office Management
    1. Assist with the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds 
    2. Assist with the development of the annual budget 
    3. Supervise the preparation of school reports, records, and other paperwork for the district office, as directed   
    4. Utilize technology for data collection and interpretation in the areas of academics, attendance, and discipline 
    5. Perform such record-keeping and reporting functions as the Building Principal may direct 
    6. Participate in administrative, Board, and other meetings as required or appropriate   
    7. Keep appropriate personnel informed of the school’s activities, needs, and any issues that may arise
    8. Provide for adequate inventories of property under school jurisdiction and for the security of that property 

    Other
    1. Assist in providing for the safety and administration of the school building and grounds 
    2. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment 
    3. Assist in the planning and supervision of activities to promote pupil and employee health and safety 
    4. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications 
    5. Perform other duties as assigned 

    EVALUATION
    Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the building principal in conformance with district policy.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
    By contract as determined by the Board of Trustees in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.

    NOTE
    All certificated and non-certificated employees and other individuals are required to undergo a criminal history check and submit to fingerprinting.  Any applicant convicted of any of the felony crimes enumerated in Section 33-1208, Idaho Code may not be hired, and any applicant convicted of any felony offense listed in Section 33-1208(2), Idaho Code shall not be hired.
