Ensure safety of students
Teach and evaluate the students using sound instructional practices
Maintain accurate and complete records as required
Assists school personnel in the identification, evaluation, placement of gifted and talented children
Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes before and after the instructional day
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
Develop a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of gifted and talented students
Elicits input from parents, teacher, school administration, and others involved in student program development
Participate in collaborative team teaching with cooperating teachers
Provide classroom teachers with resource information
Attend meetings and in-services as required
Provide individualized tutoring sessions for students within the school day or after the school day as mutually agreed upon by staff and student
Coordinates activities for gifted and talented children which may include mentorships, advanced placement, the formation of special seminars, independent research, and other integrated curricular experiences
Plan collaboration schedules with regular classroom teachers
Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to the Principal and/or Guidance Counselor
Designs appropriate goals and objectives for students based on evaluations and staff and parent input; develops and implements individual Written Education Plans
Ensure that the WEP goals/objectives for students are met
Provide direct instruction in a resource/inclusion or tutorial setting
Provides consultation on appropriate materials and teaching strategies for use by classroom teachers in assisting gifted and talented students in the regular classroom
Develops schedules and lesson plans for classroom day allowing for a variety of activities and special events appropriate for the student
Promotes special programs and competitions which develop problem solving skills, thinking skills, and those talents which have been identified
Provides in-service to parents, mentors, aides, teachers, administrators, and general education personnel regarding the education of gifted children
Assists in the development of educational evaluation and accountability procedures, curriculum and staff development and instructional or classroom management strategies
Conducts preliminary and ongoing evaluations of student levels and needs through formal and informal means
Supervises and disciplines students following the student discipline code
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences
Observe ethics of the teaching profession
Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., case history
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
Provide career information and job training information to students
Utilize a wide variety of instructional aids, including technology, to teach objectives
Adapt curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques and assessments to best enhance student learning
Administer and score various tests for evaluation and diagnostic purposes
Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct.
Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
Serve on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
Discipline students when necessary
Perform home visits when possible or as needed
Conduct yearly surveys and evaluations if required and/or necessary
Serve as a role model for students
Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other instructional materials
Write grants for equipment and monies to fund activities
Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary
Counsel, advise, encourage and motivate students
Serve as liaison with school personnel, parents, community members, universities and colleges, industry, business and cultural institutions, and other interested publics
Arranges field trips that are needed for gifted programs
Continues to extend personal knowledge and to upgrade professional credentials in the area of gifted and talented education
Perform other duties as assigned
