School counselors use facilitative, consultative, and collaborative leadership skills to provide a certainty of educational opportunities for all students.

Develops, manages, and evaluates the school counseling program in the context of the community culture and the total educational program.
Encourages students to evaluate alternatives, formulate realistic goals and become increasingly self-directed; help students understand themselves and enhance positive self-concepts.

Promotes positive relationships among members of the school community.
Analyzes, interprets, and utilizes data for decision-making and program development.
Assesses the physical, emotional, and social level of individuals and makes and follows up on referrals as appropriate.
Helps students and families understand a variety of educational opportunities and how to prepare for them.
Increase student awareness of the relationship among personal interests, values, and talents and their application to educational and career choices.
Assists teachers with developing student educational and career goals and specific plans for reaching those goals.
Uses current literature, research, and resources, such as laws, ethical standards, and position statements, to promote school counseling programming.
Understanding of graduation pathways and ability to track and monitor student progress towards graduation.
Uses data to develop and implement comprehensive programs that meet student needs.
Work in collaboration with peers across all disciplines, to enhance the learning experience for all students
Work with administrative staff and other school personnel in planning, developing, and conducting the total guidance program, scheduling of classes, and curriculum study.
Knowledgeable in or adaptable to web-based programs such as Standards for Success and Skyward
Knowledge of CTE options, course pathways, certifications, and
Demonstrate necessary organizational and leadership skills
Provide relevant and timely college and career counseling
Participate and contribute to meetings involving student learning or accommodations, including Individual Education Plan and 504
Respond to student challenges including frequent absenteeism, peer conflict, mental health issues, academic struggles, grief/loss, and family concerns.
Ability to conduct, supervise and interpret state and national testing, including but not limited to ISTEP, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, and ACCUPLACER.
Help students develop skills in academics, personal, and social areas.
Work with community agencies, parents, and individuals in coordinating school and community resources and activities which contribute to the improvement of pupil personnel services.
