Under limited supervision, provides professional leadership, consultation and support of the District’s 6 - 12 mathematics education teachers to ensure the provision of effective classroom instruction; supports administrators in meeting identified goals in math education programs; assists schools in obtaining necessary classroom materials and other resources, and performs related professional and administrative duties as required. Reports to the Director of Secondary Education.
Provides professional leadership, consultation and support of the District’s 6 -12 mathematics education teachers to help ensure the provision of effective classroom instruction and programming.
Maintains current knowledge of secondary mathematics education and of new or impending legislation to ensure compliance with external regulations and to communicate pertinent information to the administration and staff.
Serve as liaison to the Director of Secondary Education and Executive Director of Academics in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating district wide instructional related initiatives for grades 6-12.
Maintain appropriate records and statistics regarding trends, needs and success at the secondary school level mathematics.
Ensures all 6 - 12 math teachers are able to teach state standards-based lessons.
Facilitates the preparation of secondary mathematics curriculum documents, including local school improvement plans and annual updates.
Compiles and analyzes data to assist in preparation of reports to local, state, and federal agencies and for planning and evaluating the secondary mathematics education program in the district.
Confers with appropriate staff concerning student enrollment, number and kinds of positions needed, and assignment of duties, as required by state and local regulations.
Recommends courses of study and/or support services to be offered based on information obtained through review of survey and assessment data.
Assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the secondary mathematics program and projects through follow-up of students’ anecdotal, benchmarks/common assessments, NWEA MAP, EOC and SC Ready assessment results.
Identify, promote and provide secondary mathematics staff development based on opportunities for improvement identified in the assessment data, classroom observations, and an implementation of new courses of study.
Ensures secondary mathematics curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and classroom procedures are aligned to ensure maximum student achievement and success.
Serves as consultant to 6 - 12 math teachers, instructional coaches, and school administrators in the development and implementation of math curricula and special math programs, and in the evaluation and selection of teaching materials.
Shares effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in-service workshops; co-teaches or visits teachers in schools to model lesson instruction; observes teachers in the classroom; makes recommendations for improvement in performance as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed; provides opportunities for teachers to obtain appropriate professional development through workshops and graduate courses.
Provides testing support by providing teachers with standardized test preparation materials, analyzing assessment results, and conducting related meetings and workshops.
Provides guidance, leadership, and support to the 6 - 12 mathematics departments.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, Executive Director of Academics, Superintendent, other District administrators and staff, school administrators and teachers, Board members, State Department of Education personnel, various committees, parents, students and the general public.
Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and travel throughout the LEA. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms, and must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to use hands and fingers for manual dexterity in an office environment. Other required abilities include close vision, ability to adjust visual focus, and the ability to talk and hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video displays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Regular coordination with school administrators and daily liaison activity throughout the division. Contact with media personnel. Attend school division activities. Regular contact is made with teachers, parents, students, and other community members. These contacts may be contentious. Occasional contact with School Board members, State Administrators, and representatives of Federal Agencies is necessary.
