Job Summary
Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Special Event Coordinator performs duties leading up to the Streamwood Park District’s special events, such as planning, recruiting volunteers, establishing community partners for sponsorships with additional responsibilities during the run of the event. This is a part-time position, working no more than 19 hours per week, possibly scheduled any of seven (7) days per week. This is an at-will position.
Applicant will be provided a Park District paid Pre-Employment Physical, Drug Screening and Driver Extract Review, after acceptance of Employment Offer, if driving a vehicle for the Park District.
Qualifications
- Preference given to candidates with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Candidate must have at least 1 year experience in special event planning and implementation.
- Candidate must be available for all scheduled events including nights and weekends along with daytime availability for planning.
- Candidate must like working with people.
- Candidate must be CPR/AED certified within six (6) months of hiring.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Employee must perform all functions with close attention to customer service.
- Employee must be able to effectively supervise event staff and volunteers in the absence of the Recreation Manager.
- Employee must be able to make decisions based on the best interest of the event, its patrons and the Streamwood Park District.
- Employee may be responsible for the set-up and breakdown of events.
- Employee may be responsible for the running of Play in the Park events and the appropriate staffing of these events.
- Employee may be responsible for the ordering/purchase of supplies and other event materials.
- Employee must wear appropriate attire at all times.
- Employee must attend staff meetings as required.
- Employee must be prompt and prepared for scheduled hours of work.
- Employee is responsible for performing all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District safety program.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities - Employee will create enthusiasm and interest while being positive and supportive of the Streamwood Park District.
- Employee will maintain an appropriate customer service attitude.
- Employee will adhere to Park District policies and procedures as described in the Part- Time and Seasonal Personnel Policies Manual.
- Employee must perform other duties as assigned.
Cognitive Considerations - Employee must be able to organize, follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Employee must be able to follow directions from supervisor.
- Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment.
- Employee is responsible for keeping organized records and reports.
Psychological Considerations - Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Recreation Manager.
- Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most efficiently.
- Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere while promoting the Park District’s mission statement, vision and core values.
- Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.

Environmental & Physical Demands - Employee will be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions such as, but not limited to, rain and mud or extremely hot and cold temperatures.
- Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site and be able to perform light to moderate manual tasks.
- Employee may perform duties which include, but are not limited to, prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting and climbing for extended periods of time.
Salary
Pay Range is $16.00-16.00. Starting at $16.50/hour Non-Exempt, Non-IMRF
