Position Title: Business and Finance Teacher
Location: Southampton County Public Schools
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary: The Business and Finance Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in business and finance subjects, including accounting, economics, business management, and financial literacy. This role involves developing engaging curriculum, preparing students for careers in business and finance, and fostering an understanding of financial principles and practices. The teacher will also guide students in real-world applications and projects related to business and finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum in business and finance that meets state and national standards.
- Provide instruction in subjects such as accounting, economics, business management, personal finance, and entrepreneurship.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on projects, to engage students and facilitate learning.
Student Engagement and Assessment:
- Create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student participation and interest in business and finance.
- Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, projects, and presentations.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to students to promote their academic and personal growth.
Curriculum Development and Professional Development:
- Develop and update instructional materials and resources to enhance the business and finance curriculum.
- Stay informed about industry trends, advancements, and best practices in business and finance.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching strategies and knowledge.
Real-World Applications and Projects:
- Incorporate real-world business and finance scenarios into the curriculum to enhance practical understanding.
- Facilitate student projects, simulations, and activities that apply business and finance principles in practical settings.
- Collaborate with local businesses and organizations to provide students with experiential learning opportunities, such as internships or guest speakers.
Career Preparation and Advising:
- Guide students in exploring career opportunities in business and finance and provide resources for career planning.
- Assist students with developing skills such as resume writing, job interviewing, and professional networking.
- Support students in pursuing relevant certifications, competitions, and extracurricular activities related to business and finance.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other necessary documentation.
- Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Manage classroom supplies and resources, and ensure a well-organized and efficient learning environment.
Community and School Involvement:
- Participate in school committees, meetings, and other extracurricular activities as required.
- Engage with the community to promote business and finance education and strengthen school-community partnerships.
- Organize and participate in school events, such as business fairs or finance workshops, to enhance student learning and involvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Education, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Business Education or related subject area.
- Previous experience teaching business and finance subjects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of business and finance principles, practices, and industry trends.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and business software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of educational materials.
- Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as setting up classroom activities.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a classroom setting.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school events and community activities.
