Training or Experience Required: Previous work or volunteer experience with students. Must have sufficient skills in math or reading to assist students with  individual tutoring. 
 
Job Summary:  Performs entry level to semi-skilled level duties under general supervision to assist teachers who have had disruptive students removed from their classes.  Assist these students with their daily assignments and to be able to return to the regular classroom.  Follows generally standardized operating policies and procedures.  Interprets policies and procedures and follows predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
1. Must have the ability to handle disruptive students who have been temporarily removed from regular classrooms. 
2. Must make student realize being in in-school suspension is not punitive but the results of non-acceptable behavior. 
3. Must be able to enforce rules fairly and effectively. 
4. Must have patience, self- control, and adhere to district policies.
5. Communication Skills (oral, written, or business):  Possesses basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries.  Includes filling out forms.
6. Has contact with members of District and the public.
7. Must have good interpersonal interaction or communication skills within the specific classroom environment. 
8. Data Recording/Record Keeping:  Performs simple data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
9. Mathematical Skills:  Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages.
Essential Job Functions/Performance Requirements: 
1. In a classroom (center) without a teacher, has under one's direction or control between 15-20 students who have been assigned by the Principal for a temporary period of time.  Assists students with assignments in the basic subjects as outlined by the classroom teacher.  
2. May escort students to and from classroom during lunch breaks and other breaks.  
3. Before students can return to regular classes, all work must be completed and reviewed.  Keeps in contact with students' teachers concerning grades, behavior, attendance, etc.
4. Works closely with counselors and schedules necessary appointments for students with counselors. 
5. May assist students with preparing "plan for improvement" to resolve problems in the classroom. 
6. Listens to other problems the students want to address.
7. Works closely with attendance secretary, Assistant Principals, and Counselors on student progress.
8. Prepares necessary reports for teachers, counselors, and administrators.
9. When there are no students in the center, may assist counselor with other duties.
10. Attends necessary in-service training programs and offers suggestions to improve the program.  
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills to resolve problems and provide information as requested. 
2. Requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or to students, inclusive of the District Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens.

Qualifications:
Credentials:                State Certificate to teach in position.
Education:                  Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
 
Training or Experience Required:  Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.   Applicants with a brass emphasis are strongly encouraged to apply although all qualified applicants will be considered.  Duties include: Assisting with the high school marching band, team teaching the high school concert band, 8th grade band, 7th grade band, and beginning band students. 

Job Summary:    To assist the band director to direct/instruct students in concert band performances, marching band performances; oversee equipment, uniforms, supplies, music and recruitment.  May schedule performances.
 
Special Knowledge, Skill, or Ability: 
1. Ability to direct/instruct students in concert band performances and marching band performances.
Essential Functions:  The following functions although principally done by the director may be assigned as needed to the assistant band director under the director’s and principal’s authorization.
 
1. Marching band:  Assists the director to:
   1. Select music; schedule and plan for summer camps.
   2. Works with a committee to make recommendations to the principal for color             guard/percussion instructor(s) that can be contracted with to assist in instruction.
   3. Prepare drills for marching season.
   4. May attend drum and bugle corps shows to see state of the art in drill writing.
   5. Establish and attend/direct early morning rehearsals before the school day and before the regular school calendar.
   6. Prepares students and supervises their participation in various marching contests.
   7. Prepare home game program for football games.
   8. Prepare for at least two parades each year.
2. Concert Band:  Assists the director to:
   1. Select music. Prepare for three concerts yearly.
   2. Schedule rehearsals as necessary for ensemble for contests and concerts.
   3. Assist students with each instrument.
3. 8^th and 7^th Grade Band:
   1. Assists students in fingerings, harmony, and playing.
   2. Prepares band for two concerts each year.
4. Elementary band:
   1. Teaches students the basics of playing their instruments.
   2. Teaches students the basic music theories.
   3. Recruits for middle school band.
5. Other Essential Functions:  Assists the director to:
   1. Oversee instrument inventory; oversee budget for band program.

Job Title:                Special Education Classroom Teacher
Reports To:            Principal & Director of Special Education
Site:                        Shawnee Middle School

Qualifications:
Credentials:             State Certificate to teach in specific position; Certification in specialized field of special education: Mild/Moderate, Severe/Profound, or categorical certification areas. Elementary, ELA, or Math certification preferred 
Education:               Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.

Training or Experience Required: Completed student teaching.
 
Job Summary:   Performs skilled/professional level tasks under limited supervision to provide children/students with the proper teaching techniques/environment for learning. Depending on the special needs of students, provides an environment and instruction for their physical, emotional and psychological enrichment so that they will be able to be mainstreamed if possible into classes, workplace, or another functioning environment. Establishes lesson plans, grades, and accomplishes curriculum objectives to enhance each student's self-esteem and increase personal growth. In addition, meets with parents and other staff to enhance learner outcomes. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the variety of challenges of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the solution. For those students that are severely at risk or limited in motor or other hygiene skills, assist with basic hygiene, eating/dressing functions.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Abilities:
• For those who teach students with Severe/Profound disabilities, C.P.R. and first aid training are preferred prior to hire.
• Behavioral management training is preferable with experience in implementing behavior intervention plans, data collection, and implementing behavioral goals/objectives.
• Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms, instructions, and writing/printing legibly. Knowledge of grammatical structure, vocabulary for preparing correspondence from rough draft or proofing of completed material.
• Communicates in clear English.
• An employee in this position has regular contact by telephone or in-person with the public to determine actual information needed. Job requires interpreting and translating facts and information, explaining situations and issues to persons and advising them of alternative courses of action.
• Maintains confidentiality of all information.
• Must be knowledgeable of the State policies and procedures regarding Special Education and must be able to develop I.E.P.'s and interact with the I.E.P. team.

Essential Job Functions (PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES):
1. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the district's curriculum goals as well as the individual needs of each pupil. Such plans (I.E.P.s) are to be developed with I.E.P. team.
2. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that are individualized and meet the needs of the learner.
3. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Collects behavioral data and implements behavior intervention plans. 
4. Evaluates pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares reports relating to pupil's progress.
5. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program and IEP.
6. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and implementing individual education plans.
7. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
8. Maintains professional competence through in service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
9. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
10. If working in a self-contained class, may supervise pupils in out of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
11. May be expected to administer group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program in addition to individualized standardized tests.
12. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
13. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
14. Based on the position, may coach, participate in extra-curricula activities, etc. These special duties are identified in the appropriate labor agreement.
15. To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings.  An employee's eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools.  Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

• Encourages effective learning with proper teaching techniques.
• Ensure students are acquiring skills and knowledge to apply principles, theories and other learning.
• Properly monitors student progress (grading, feedback, etc.) and provides environment to encourage independent thinking challenges for more motivated students.
• Maintains proper classroom/media center discipline.
• Contributes to effectiveness/quality of district programs, including extracurricular programs.
• Keeps accurate records, reports, etc. pursuant to district policy.
• Actively supports and looks for ways to improve the quality of customer service as provided by the district.
• Cooperates with other district personnel to improve the quality of education.
• When serving on committees, maintains an attitude of constructive/supportive behavioral feedback and input to improve the quality of service.
• Continues to be involved in personal growth and development.
Supervision exercised: Employee does not supervise other employees.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:
Other than those physical/mental requirements included within the essential functions:
• Able to communicate on the telephone.
• Able to get around the various sites.
• Able to perform playground, lunch, bus and related duties. In certain classes, lifting and assisting those with physical disabilities; changing diapers/clothes; assisting with other bodily functions.
• Sometimes students can be violent and prone to bite, kick, scratch or hit.  Must follow district’s procedures for nonviolent crisis intervention.
• Ability to handle sick/injured students.
• Ability to handle situations with due care for safety and health of self, others, and student, inclusive of the Districts Exposure Control Plan for Blood borne Pathogens.
Terms of Employment:  In compliance with Negotiated Contract and/or State Law. Salary to be established by the Board. (182-day contract)

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
