5. Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the c school system.
6. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

Training or Experience Required: Completed student teaching.
 
Job Summary:   Performs skilled/professional level tasks under limited supervision to provide children/students with the proper teaching techniques/environment for learning. Depending on the special needs of students, provides an environment and instruction for their physical, emotional and psychological enrichment so that they will be able to be mainstreamed if possible into classes, workplace, or another functioning environment. Establishes lesson plans, grades, and accomplishes curriculum objectives to enhance each student's self-esteem and increase personal growth. In addition, meets with parents and other staff to enhance learner outcomes. Job Title:                          Teacher's Assistant Paraprofessional

Qualifications
Credentials:                    None
Education:                      Associate Degree or 48 hours college credit or pass the Oklahoma General Education Test or pass the WorkKeys Test.
 
Training or Experience Required: Previous work or volunteer experience with school age students, preferred. Assignment may require sign language competency and auxiliary aid experience.  Paraprofessional training may be necessary.
 
Job Summary: Performs entry level to semi-skilled level duties under general supervision to assist the teacher to provide an environment to improve and develop the student's self-care, physical, social, communication, and intellectual skills.  Follows general standardized operating policies and procedures. On occasion will have to interpret policies and procedures and follow predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
2. Maintains confidentiality of information about students.
3. Data Recording/Record Keeping: Performs non-complex data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
4. Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages.
5. Reads and interprets routine written or printed materials such as charts, diagrams, maps or instruction material.
6. Business Machines (like computers, copiers, etc.): Uses business machines that can be easily learned from non-complex manuals or verbal instructions. Such machines include but are not limited to photocopiers, laminators, duplicator, CRT/computers (no software experience). May on occasion use more difficult machines without any proficiency required, such as data entry.
7. Office Filing and Retrieving: Responsible for filing and retrieving from an existing filing system.
8. Contact with Others: Has some public contact with members of district. Some interpersonal interaction or communication is required outside of the specific classroom environment with other staff and parents.
 
Essential Job Functions (Performance Responsibilities):
1. Assists with instruction and activities for individuals or for groups as assigned by teacher. Supervises students in instructional settings, off-campus activities and during non-instructional such as recess, assemblies, emergency drills, lunch periods, etc. On occasion may supervise the class in teacher's absence.
2. Prepares, creates, and/or adapts instructional materials as directed by the teacher. Prepares bulletin boards and other teaching aids. Assists students with assignments. Sets up and operates equipment for instructional purposes. Serves as chief source of information and assistance for substitute teachers. And at all times applies the “need to know” rule in regard to confidentiality.
3. Assists teacher with student behavior management strategies.
4. Grades student work; records grades; takes attendance; completes necessary paperwork and other records for students.
5. Assists students with hygiene/bathroom (changing diapers, etc.) functions, eating, dressing, and assists students with changing of clothes, if necessary. Assists with lifting/transferring students in wheelchairs or walkers.
6. From I.E.P. and direct instruction for the O.T. and/P.T. positions students as required and assists students while they are working with the Occupation/Physical Therapists consultant in receipt of their therapy program.
7. Performs housekeeping duties with classroom to ensure it is neat, clean, and disinfected. May assist students in boarding and getting off the bus.
8. Attends in-service to keep up with new policies and procedures.
9. Attends and supervises students with computerized and community-based instruction.
10. May operate computer. Assists teacher in obtaining supplies necessary for scheduled activities: i.e. paints, brushes, construction paper, science supplies, etc. Assists teacher with compiling student's work to send home weekly in folders. Assists with parent communication only as directed by the teacher.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Requires good customer service/people skills to resolve problems and provide information as requested.
2. Requires following safety guidelines and policies, inclusive of the District Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens, to reduce accident or injury to self or to students.
3. Requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns.
4. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are important to the success of the position.
5. Must maintain a positive attitude and be cooperative toward other staff members, the public, and students within the educational system.

2. Requires frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching, reaching above the shoulder, and occasional pushing/pulling of wheelchair.
3. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds to lift and position children into various seating arrangements in the school building, within the community, and on the bus.
4. In secondary schools, due to the size of the students, staff does more lifting/carrying and maneuvering.
5. Assists with toilet duties, and occasional carrying educational materials.
6. Must have the dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines.
7. Must be able to hear quiet voices and read body language, provide instructions.
8. May be exposed to hitting, biting, kicking, and other physical resistance by students.
9. Follow bloodborne pathogens protocols when handling bodily fluids and disinfecting equipment.
10. Must be able to supervise students in the classroom and outside.
11. Must be able to communicate with students and parents.
12. Must be able to get around the classroom, media center, cafeteria, campus, etc.
