EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work operating light to heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer, or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of drainage, streets, brush collection, brush chipping and mowing of City Right of Ways. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. (Operates light equipment to accomplish assigned activities; may include driving trucks.)

Essential Duties*

- Operates light equipment such as a tractor, mower, chainsaw, weed eater, shredder, chipper, leaf compactor, or truck as required and instructed;
- Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic systems and performs other routine inspections to ensure vehicle is in proper working condition;
- Assists with set-up of work zone barricades and signs for traffic control
- Provides assistance with and suggestions for increased safety during assigned projects;
- Maintains city right of ways and other city properties;
- Plans work day for crew in absence of supervisor;
- Loads, transports, and unloads necessary materials for assigned projects;
- May performs light plumbing, maintenance, construction, and/or carpentry duties;
- Observes all safety rules and procedures; and

- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school graduation, or its equivalent, and at least one year of experience operating light equipment;
or sufficient education to read and write, plus at least two years of experience operating light equipment;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver's license with air brakes. Class A (commercial) driver’s license desirable.
