Job Goal:  Assists the Principal to provide instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development. Assists in the day to day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities. Leads the staff in the implementation of quality instruction. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary and enforces school policy. Assists the Principal to manage employees in the elementary school. Supports the Principal in setting the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the staff within the school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, making recommendations for hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Sample List of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal to:
• Implement the tenants of Professional Learning Communities.
• Manage all building staff and provides general supervision to students.
• Facilitate in-service training/professional development for staff
• Supervise extra-curricular activities
• Create and implement a Matteson School District 162 vision.
• Direct the staff in addressing the needs of all students through differentiated instruction.
 
• Establish priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students
• Work with District Administration personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school         
• Work with the Director of Pupil Services to assure the appropriate programming for special needs/at-risk students.
As directed by the Principal, the Assistant Principal:
• Manages the physical plant in terms of safety and welfare of students and staff.
• Resolves staff problems and provide support to teachers
• Maintains the discipline and morale of students by carrying out the provisions of the Student  Rights and Responsibilities in a consistent and fair manner
• Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff using the Danielson Framework for Teaching
• Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
• Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
• Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.
• Participates in district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
• Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board, or the State and Federal level at the building level.
• Continual monitoring of student achievement
• Instructional and curricular leadership through the development of appropriate programs and expectations.
• Insure quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal/District Administration
Evaluation:  Performance of the job will be evaluated at least annually
Terms of Employment:  12-month contract

• Follows-up, on a daily basis, with all deliveries to schools to ensure that those deliveries have been received.
 
• Maintains copies of all delivery invoices to the District Office and keep copies of invoices signed by school personnel responsible for receiving product deliveries to their school.
 
• Delivers books and materials to school when necessary.
 
• Reviews the operations/maintenance of the warehouse and the delivery of products to schools and offers suggestions regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall operation.
 
• Communicates with District Administration regarding any issues pertaining to the maintenance of the warehouse, the delivery of products to the schools and other concerns/issues regarding the efficient operation of the warehouse.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under direction of Special Education Department administrator and local school administrators will provide quality services to students with disabilities, through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of special education programs including specialized instruction, and consultation to general education staff.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Prepare student individual education programs in consultation with parents and IEP team members.
2. Design instruction, both individual programs and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum.
3. Act as a case manager of IEP implementation with general educations staff.
4. Monitor student progress and participation in review and revision of IEP, as appropriate.
5. Assist other professional staff in identifying learning/behavior disabilities, development of remediation plans, and evaluation of student progress.
6. Maintain appropriate student data and other records and submit reports as required.
7. Articulate curriculum between and among student levels.  
8. Manage classroom organization.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
