  •   Flossmoor School District 161 is seeking a Special Education teacher at Western Avenue Elementary School!
     
    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Education.  Must have taught Special Education Resource – Grades PreK-5 in the last ten (10) years or have taken coursework, seminars or workshops relevant to Special Education Resource – Grades PreK-5 education in the last two (2) years.
     
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL), LBS1 endorsement for grade level

    Certified staff salary schedule

    SUMMARY:  To meet the instructional needs of special education students assigned to case load consisting of students who receive less than 50% services.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.
    • Assists in the development of the pupil’s IEP
    • Provides special education instruction for the pupil in accordance with the IEP
    • Presents and interprets pertinent data obtained from a teacher conference, parent interview, cumulative folder, anecdotal records, behavior checklists, criterion referenced tests, error analysis of student’s work, diagnostic testing, and provides information on modes of learning, achievement levels, and specific needs
    • Keeps the Principal informed, establishes rapport with other staff members, makes assessment and progress reports for future staffings
    • Prepares written behavior and academic reports for presentation at future staffings and for the records
    • Makes informal education evaluations of the assigned students which includes evaluation of day-to-day progress or lack of it, selecting appropriate assessment tools, and providing interpretation of these results
    • Holds parent conferences for each student; includes a discussion of the problem, the education program, and ideas for home reinforcement of the educational training
    • Makes a written report for each student when regular progress reports are issued for parents and the permanent file; bases the report on the established student-based objectives
    • Helps the student to understand the nature of his/her difficulties as well as his/her strengths and assists the establishment of realistic goals
    • Works with and coordinates program witparaprofessionals
    • Assists with the scheduling of needed tutorial, supportive, and consultative programs and services for pupils needing them (e.g., speech therapy, physical therapy, etc.)
    • Cooperates closely with support staff and other specialists
    • Understands and it able to use when needed, the referral process as applied to the District in general and to the special education program in particular
    • Is familiar with needed community resources and knows how to use them
    • Demonstrates the effective use of digital tools in teaching and learning practices to help students achieve learning targets
    • Models use of digital tools in instructional practices
    • Regularly connects with continuous professional learning communities to advance professional practices for 21st Century Learning and Teaching
    • Participates in the evaluation process with the appropriate administrator to improve performance according to the Flossmoor Teacher Evaluation Plan (FTEP)
     
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.  Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
