JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic leader for Steger School District 194, overseeing all aspects of human resource management to support the district’s mission to recruit, develop, and retain a high quality staff. This role focuses on employee recruitment, retention, development, compliance, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment for all staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To excel in this role, the individual must meet the following key responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract high-quality candidates.
Manage the district’s hiring process, including job postings, applicant screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
Build partnerships with universities, professional organizations, and community groups to promote diverse hiring pipelines.
Coordinate the district mentoring programs for teachers and other district personnel.
Oversee the development and updating of handbooks, job descriptions, and workflow tools.
Supervise administrators conducting evaluations and ensure compliance with PERA and Senate Bill 7.
Review and maintain evaluation documents and licensure tracking.
Support the business department in handling FMLA and other types of leaves.
Provide guidance to administrators and staff on personnel matters, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and act as a liaison between the district and union.
Coordinate mandated training and maintain a professional development database and ensure alignment with state requirements.
Manage student teaching and intern programs.
Serve as District Complaint Manager, investigating allegations of misconduct and reporting findings to leadership.
Develop and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, and Title IX.
Monitor and ensure staff adherence to district policies and applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate and secure personnel records, including licensure and certification data.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree with an Administrative Endorsement
Successful experience as a school administrator
Deep knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in managing personnel and facilitating a positive work environment.
Ability to work flexible hours and maintain confidentiality
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The role requires frequent walking and standing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non-traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings.
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Professional Educator License with administrative endorsement. HR credentials preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position. Begins July 1.
EVALUATION: The performance of this role is evaluated according to the Board's policy on evaluating professional personnel.
