REPORTS TO: Building Principal
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Facilitates learning and the development of skills in Math
2.Facilitates learning of specific courses of study and the development of good civic participation as mandated by state law and by policies of the school district.
3.Develops and implements lesson plans, utilizing instructional materials including the integration of technology, to provide differentiated learning experiences to meet the needs of each student
4.Collaborates and co-teaches with team members to develop and implement differentiated lessons plans for all students’ success.
5.Establishes and maintains positive student behavior within the classroom and school Environment.
6.Evaluates and monitors student academic and social growth, and keeps appropriate records using formal and informal data collection, methods, or tools. 
7.Identifies student needs and collaborate with team members to assess and remediate student learning and establish or implement behavior plans.
8.Creates an engaging classroom environment for learning.
9.Communicates classroom information and student progress with guardians through web pages, conferences and digital resources.
10.Commit to personal professional growth through activities provided by the district, self selected activities and those recommended by the supervising principal for competency advancement.
11.Maintains required inventory records for all classroom materials.
12.Supervises students during non academic activities within the school day
13.Administers individual and group assessments in accordance with the district and State Testing Program.
14. Participates in school programs, faculty committees and student activities in accordance with terms of the current contract.
15.Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee and in accordance with terms stipulated in the current contract.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Ten month year.

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
• Title – Literacy Specialist - Middle School
 
JOB GOAL: To provide reading interventions in small group settings, individualized student instruction, organize and assist in benchmark testing, progress monitoring of students, evaluate the effectiveness of student interventions, adjust teaching strategies according to student needs
 
QUALIFICATIONS:    
1.Masters in Reading and/or ISBE State Certification (03) with 18 hours of coursework in the diagnosis and remediation of disabilities for reading endorsement; and/or National Board Certification in Literacy
2.Must have a strong knowledge base on literacy topics, but also have the skills needed to present and transfer knowledge to the staff
3.Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience preferred
4.EL Certification preferred

REPORTS TO:          Principal/Assistant Principal
                            
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Support teachers in the instruction of students with varied abilities to facilitate transfer between classroom and small group instruction.
 
2. Apply a deep understanding of reading and writing instruction and best practice in reading to classroom/small group settings.
 
3. Implement the MTSS process with fidelity including full understanding of the expectations at the Universal/Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels and provide support to staff.
 
4. Assist with benchmark assessments; interpret reading research and pertinent student data to explain findings to a variety of audiences, including student data meetings.
 
5. Provide professional development and support to building or district staff in areas of literacy.
 
6. Manage building instructional resources and provide appropriate materials to support differentiation and varying student needs.
 
7. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, other school staff and parents to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.
 
8. Support practices of growth mindset to support a positive culture and climate in the building.
 
9. Attend literacy collaboration meetings to increase instructional capacity.
 
10. Participate in professional development, research, reading and inquiry sessions to stay abreast of developments in best classroom practices, technology and assessment.
 
11. Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee and in accordance with terms stipulated in the current contract.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Ten-month year
 
 SALARY:    In accordance with the Professional Negotiation Agreement with the Berwyn South Education Association

The Special Education Behavioral program is dedicated to providing specialized instruction and behavioral interventions to students identified with emotional, behavioral, or other disabilities related to their behavior impacting their learning.  The teacher in this role plays a crucial part in fostering a supportive, structured, and safe classroom environment where students can achieve their fullest academic, social, and emotional potential. 

REPORTS TO:          Building Principal
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. create IEPs that are tailored to each student's unique strengths and areas of need.  
2. Adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning staples and ensure access to the general education curriculum where appropriate
3. Conduct functional behavior assessments and design evidence-based BIPs to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive behavior intervention supports
4. Utilize strategies such as PBIS, restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, de-escalation strategies and more
5. Maintain a calm and structured environment that minimizes risk and maximizes student safety.
6. Facilitates learning and the development of skills in a variety of subjects; including reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, physical education, health, music, technology and or exploratory classes.

COMPENSATION:  In accordance with the Professional Negotiation Agreement with the South Berwyn Education Association.
