    Classified Job Description

     

    Title:     Athletic Trainer

     

    Salary Schedule Range: 37

     

    Purpose of Position: To evaluate physical condition of student athletes, treat minor injuries, assist with rehabilitation, and prepare student athletes for competition. 

     

    Reporting: Reports to an assigned supervisor.

     

    Employment Status: Full-time, 11-month work calendar (FLSA Non-exempt)

     

    Location: Dos Pueblos High School

     

    Essential Functions:

     

    Render first aid to injured players, including, but not limited to, cleaning and bandaging wounds, applying heat or cold packs, taping and bracing. 

     

    Apply wraps or tape to ankles, wrists, fingers, elbows or knees to prepare student athletes for practice or competition. 

     

    Recommend treatment for muscular soreness, strains, tears or bruising.

     

    Consult and collaborate with physicians and/or District nursing staff as needed.

     

    Develop strength, conditioning and flexibility programs to promote healing or injury prevention. 

     

    Provide direction and technical expertise to student athletic trainers as required. 

     

    Respond to common inquiries or questions from students, parents, coaches and other staff. 

     

    Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.

     

    Other Functions:

     

    Perform related duties as assigned.

     

    Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

     

    A variety of working conditions, including outdoors in various weather conditions, and indoors in gymnasiums or weight rooms.

     

    Exposure to loud noise.

     

    Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and to apply tape, bandages or braces to injuries; standing or walking for extended periods of time; reaching overhead to receive or store materials; ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. 

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    Ability to quickly recognize, assess or triage common athletic injuries including, but not limited to, sprains, bruised or broken bones, pulled muscles, turf toe, and head injuries.

     

    Ability to keep accurate records of injuries, treatments, and therapeutic plans. 

     

    Ability to operate a computer and a variety of contemporary office equipment, and use software platforms like MS Office and Google Suite.

     

    Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with students, parents, school site staff and District staff.

     

    Ability to use appropriate telephone and e-mail etiquette. 

     

    Ability to use correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and business vocabulary.

     

    Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions. 

     

    Ability to meet schedules and timelines.

     

    Ability to work collaboratively with others.

     

    Education, Training and Experience:

     

    Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, including courses in physiology, kinesiology, human anatomy or athletic training, and/or practical experience that demonstrates ability to meet the essential requirements of the position. 

     

    Additional Requirements:

     

    Valid California Driver’s License

     

    Valid Athletic Trainers Association certificate
