JOB GOALS:  
 
We seek an innovative educational leader to support the goals of the District’s Strategic Plan in expanding educational pathways and opportunities for all students. Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction will successfully collaborate with building leaders and district staff to guide the ongoing development and refinement of our K-12 curriculum.  The Director will support school and district leaders to implement transformational change in programming, instructional practice, and school structures. This position requires effective leadership and communication skills as well as a keen eye for detail with strong skills in data analysis.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Lead curriculum and instruction initiatives as an integral member of the District’s Administrative Team.

• At the direction of the Superintendent, assume shared leadership responsibilities for the implementation and completion of District Strategic Plan goals. 

• Communicate the approved curriculum to the professional staff.

• Facilitate and actively participate in proposed and ongoing curriculum development projects and annual district wide curriculum reviews.

• Support district teachers and administrators in interpreting and implementing the District’s curriculum.

• Participate as a key member of the Curriculum Committee, preparing and presenting program information and data related to curriculum, student achievement, and professional development to the Committee and/or Board of Directors as requested.

• Engage, as assigned, in research related to curriculum development for the district.

• Assume a leadership role in the development of curriculum for any course newly 
 
mandated by the state legislature or the R.S.U. #57 Board of Directors.
 
• Research, evaluate, and recommend adoption of new instructional materials, methods and programs, assisting in budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment, and materials.

• Champion dynamic educational programming that includes, but is not limited to Service Learning, Social-Emotional Learning, interdisciplinary units of study, and opportunities for authentic learning experiences.  

• In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent, plan and organize district professional development opportunities and calendars.

• Assume leadership role for the school district’s Instructional Support Network, which is responsible for supporting the needs of all RSU 57 learners.

• Provide in-service educational activities for instructional personnel.

• Provide leadership and support for various aspects of professional growth throughout the district, including onboarding, mentoring, certification, and PEPG processes, in cooperation with other district leaders.

• Support building leaders and instructional staff with implementation of the district’s MTSS-A and MTSS-B plans and protocols. 

• As directed by the Assistant Superintendent, supervise and/or evaluate building-based specialists, and instructional coaches.

• Provide leadership to create, develop, organize, and implement a system of assessments to measure student growth and provide support for teachers and school leaders, utilizing data to inform instruction.

• Assume responsibility for the selection, ordering, reviewing and evaluating results of district-wide testing programs, and for other evaluative measures used by the schools.

• Manage content on the district curriculum website, ensuring it is up to date and provides staff with the supporting resources needed to successfully complete their work with students.

• Collaborate with the Director of Technology and the Assistant Superintendent of
 
Schools to leverage educational technology strategically, selectively, and deliberately to enhance student learning and educator effectiveness.
 
• Oversee the district’s ELL programming ensuring that students are receiving the services they require for success, maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
 
• Oversee the district external assessment, ESEA applications and reporting, and ensure legal requirements connected to Comprehensive Needs Assessments or Title grants are met, in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent.
 
• Collaborate with educational leaders of curriculum and instruction at state, regional, and national levels.
 
• Maintain awareness of developments in curriculum and instruction, and furnish recommendations in determining their appropriateness for the district’s educational program.
 
• Performance of such related duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time.

Position Purpose
 
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

The goal of CLIMB is independent student success in the mainstream setting. The program was designed to provide students with behavioral instruction/coaching to promote success in their mainstream classes. Mainstream time includes more structured times (such as academic and specials instruction and lessons) and less structured times (such as lunch/recess and hallway transitions). Some direct CLIMB-based academic instruction may also be included as part of a student’s day if it is determined to be an area of specific frustration and a source of behavioral and emotional dysregulation.

To assist the teaching staff in maintaining appropriate classroom activities/environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
 
REPORTS TO:
 
Building Principal and Special Education Administrator    
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
1. Documentation of at least three years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
 
2. Must possess strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, an understanding of the instructional process, and an understanding of students’ needs to include understanding of the student with special needs. 
 
3. Knowledge of emergency, health, and safety issues would be preferred. 
 
4. Must be willing to participate in ongoing in-service training as requested by Administrator and/or Director. 
 
5. Must hold or be eligible for State of Maine Educational Technician III Authorization and CHRC Approval Certificate. 
 
6. Must maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as required by law.

Program Overview:
The CLIMB Program (Creating Learning Experiences that Foster Innovative and Mindful Behaviors) is a regular education program designed for students with an MTSS-B Tier II or III plan who require support in developing self-regulation, executive functioning, and social skills in larger group settings. The goal of CLIMB is to help students achieve independent success in the mainstream classroom by providing behavioral instruction, coaching, and structured support.
 
Position Overview:
 
The Educational Technician in the CLIMB Program works under the guidance of a certified teacher and school leadership to support students in both structured (academic lessons, specials) and unstructured settings (lunch, recess, transitions). This role involves implementing behavioral strategies, providing instructional support, and reinforcing social-emotional learning goals to foster student growth and success.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
1. Provide direct support to students in small-group and individual settings, reinforcing behavioral, executive functioning, and social-emotional skills as outlined in their Tier II or III plans.

2. Assist with instructional activities using evidence-based curricula, implementing strategies that support students in their mainstream and CLIMB-based academic instruction.

3. Coach and cue students throughout the school day to encourage emotional regulation, positive behavior, and engagement in learning.

4. Collect and document data on student progress, tracking behavioral and academic growth to inform interventions and adjustments.

5. Implement interventions and accommodations such as Check-In/Check-Out and other individualized strategies as outlined in student plans.

6. Support communication between staff and students, sharing observations and collaborating to promote student success.

7. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administration to assess student needs and adjust supports accordingly.

8. Participate in CLIMB team meetings and contribute to discussions on student progress and program improvements.

9. Model and reinforce appropriate social skills and classroom expectations, maintaining a structured and positive learning environment.

10. Prepare materials and assist with classroom organization to support instruction and student engagement.

11. Follow district policies and procedures to maintain accurate records, uphold student confidentiality, and support school-wide expectations.

12. Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of students and the CLIMB Program.
 
Qualifications:
 
• Minimum of Educational Technician certification (Level II or III preferred).

• Experience working with students in an educational or behavioral support setting is preferred.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

• Ability to implement behavioral strategies and provide in-the-moment coaching.

• Understanding of MTSS-B framework, executive functioning, and social-emotional learning is a plus.
 
This role is essential in helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in mainstream classrooms.
