Music Teacher
Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide music education for K-6th grade students at Friendship Village School. Instruction will include general music classes, instrumental lessons, band and chorus rehearsals. He/She will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciations, and performance of music through a vareity of planned music expereiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening to performances.
Essential Functions
- Teaches general music to K-6th grade in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way.
- Enables students to deveolp an appreciation of the art of music.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and muscial repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.
- Demonstrates techniques to students in music concepts.
- Support a curriculum that focuses on a balanced approach to singing, instrumental music playign, and creative movement.
- Teaches the students to identify different insturments from the way they look and sound.
- Develop and strengthen performance skills in the recorder, singing, and playing percussion, as well as other instruments.
- Acquaints students with differernt music genres such as jazz, clasical, pop, folk, etc.
- Establishes routines and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve effective participation in all activities.
- Arranges opportunities for students to present at musical performances.
- Maintains care/responsibiltiy for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Evaluates student performances and growth in knowledege and understanding and prepares trimester reports.
Additional Duties - Attends staff development programs, curriculum meetings, and other professinal activiites.
- Makes basic repairs of musical instruments.
- Performs school duties as assigned by the principal.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels between Miller and Friendship Village School one day per week. Travels to curriculum meetings and district workshop days.
Work Schedule
Standard work schedule as set forth in teh Teachers' Unit Contract. Will work 2 1/2 days per week, and attend 1/ of all required after school PLC time, workship days and evening events (workdays including workshop days will total 90.5 days per year).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
- [State] State Certification as a Music Teacher.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education: - Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience: - Successful prior teaching experience in music for the appropriate grade levels preferred.
