Music Teacher (Folklorico, Jazz, Mariachi, Strings Specialist)
District-wide position (serves Golden Oak Elementary, Redwood Elementary, Sequoia Elementary, and Richlnad Junior High)
Job Summary:
Assumes the complete responsibility for directing and teaching all classes offered in Instrumental Music, Music Theory, and directing the activities of one or more performances, utilizing the District’s approved curriculum within the scope of the District’s adopted philosophy and goals; assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability.

Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
- Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Must meet highly qualified teacher requirements.
- Must have ELL authorization.
- Must be able to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community.
Essential Functions: - Teaches music appreciation, harmony and explorations in instrumental music (band, instrumental ensemble, etc.).
- Plans and implements a balanced music program.
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time so preparation, rehearsal, and instruction are accomplished.
- Travels between school sites.
- Recruits & organizes students into an instrumental music program at each assigned school in cooperation with parents, classroom teachers and site administrators.
- Instructs students in the basic aspects required to play their instrument, as well as, in the basic elements of music reading.
- Provides individual and small group instruction. Adapts the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities. Accommodate a variety of instructional strategies to support all students.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment storage.
- Maintains accurate inventory to include loss prevention and maintenance.
- Utilizes the districts ultrasonic machine for instrument cleaning and maintenance.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment for teaching and learning.
- Evaluates each student’s performance and musical growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for the school and the community.
- Selects and requisitions books, musical instruments, and instructional aids.
- Communicates with parents, school administrators, and counselors on student progress, and holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil’s progress.
- Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
- Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
- Maintains grading system with substantiated grades for students.
- Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
