  •   Job Purpose:  The Mechanic position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and rescue of school buses and other fleet vehicles, working as part of the Transportation team to provide safe, efficient and reliable transportation services to students and schools.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Minimum 3 years related experience
    • Thorough working knowledge of the mechanical and electrical systems for various makes and models of buses
    • Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical manuals
    • Current knowledge of industry best practices and use of technology
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, particularly other mechanics and bus drivers and to establish effective working relationships at all levels in the organization
    • Strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions
    • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines of governing bodies regarding repairs, inspection, maintenance and safety

    Qualifications:
    • Journeyperson Mechanic is preferred, however a combination of education and experience will be considered. 
    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a busy mechanic shop and in field service.
    • Experience working with school buses is a definite asset.
    • Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License. 

    Working Conditions:
    • As per Conditions of Employment (non-union)
    • 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year
    • Commencing as soon as possible
    • Salary range:
      • With Journeyperson Mechanic Certificate: $37.22 - $43.55 per hour
      • Without Journeyperson Mechanic Certificate: $33.55 - $35.95 per hour
    • Ability to perform physical labour on a sustained basis, including lifting heavy objects, installing tires and other heavy parts up to 80 lb. regularly and more if required
    • Some travel within the school division is required, in adverse conditions
